Do you ever… declare your love in the snow?

2009-02-13-max-heart

Last weekend it was just beautiful outside. It was nearly 30 degrees… a veritable balmy day! The boys all went out to play… and the usual sorts of things go on out there… they go into the pasture, run around with our donkey (Rodeo Jack) and our goat (Mailbox)… then they throw snowballs at each other for a while… hiding behind the mounds and mounds of snow everywhere, shaking swords at each other screaming, laughing. They are boys after all… and chasing, pushing, throwing, and weaponry are all sort of the norm for them. (I make them sound so barbaric… they really are lambs at heart…)

Anyway… Later that day we were going to some friends’ house for dinner and Max was just so excited to show us something he made in the snow. Naturally, being the mother of four boys my mind goes to… did he pee a design in the snow?? Oh, joy… Or, is it a fort he dug out? What, what! Then sure enough, we happen upon it… a snow heart that he carved with his hands out of a random chunk of icy goodness. Sort of melts my own.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
love, love,
Max…… and me

Okay… so this totally reminds me… and I know my mother reads your blog anyway… (she’ll giggle when she reads this). She dated this guy in college (or maybe they weren’t dating…) anyway, he wrote… “I love you Julie” in the snow under her dorm window… how cute huh… ;) (hi mom) ;)

This little story just makes my day, Tracy. Being the mom of 3 boys I can completely relate to the “barbaric” as well as the “lamb”. Although we are in the teenage years with two right now. 15,13,and 10. Store all those “snow hearts” in your own heart. What great memories I have of swords, gunfights, and wrestling matches…even peeing in the backyard! Gotta embrace those little men and love ‘em at whatever stage they’re at!

Oh how this makes me long for colder climes… I am a native Floridian and for the life of me I know I was born in the wrong region of the country! :)
I relish each and every cold day we get here — all 5 of them! :)
I so wish I knew what makes so many folks want to live here — enjoy your beautiful 4 seasons! Its as God designed and it sounds so incredibly wonderful for the senses! :)

Oh Tracy…

My heart just melted too. How you must have felt when Max unveiled that precious gift in the snow….

Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this with all of us! AND for the WONDERFUL and FUN video with Sarah all about the inspiration of nature! Love, Love, Love it!

Thank you too, for the additional Valentine discount.. I have received several Tracy Porter boxes these past two weeks.. (My Valentine jewelry arrived today!!!!!!! Hooray!)
I will have to do some more shopping on your site this weekend… There were one of two more things that were “calling to me”…. :)

This is the stuff that really matters…when our children spontaneously create beauty and art out of the depths of their hearts, just because…you know you must be doing something right! Thank you for sharing this important little piece of everyday wonder!

What a treasure…I think I would have had to scoop that right up and put it in my freezer…what a darling. BUT my favorite, as a mom of 3 boys, is your first thought of peeing in the snow!!!

..and Dawn…i should have put that heart in the freezer..goode idea!……or perhaps we could have brought it inside and poured snow cone syrup all over it and taken our spoons to it…….I just couldn’t bear to move the lovely thing….it has since melted…..but a picture in my mind forever!

Jeanna,…my daughter didn’t quite get the “love message in the snow” right. I was in ninth grade, Mike was my first love. After staring google-eyed at him for two years – we finally got together, and … “I love you Julie” in the snow under my bedroom window made Mike the best “1st love” a girl could have. On a side note: Yeah! Jeanna’s here on a visit, and sold me on the Scandinvian pants and Sueded Artisan vest and can’t wait to get them and add them to my Tracy Porter wardrobe.
