How to Create an Inspired Bathroom

Let me explain. I love a truly pretty bath…tempting in a ….”little rooms are lovely and I may just stay in here forever sort of a way”. Do you get me here. I know I have shared this in a video way back…but then sometimes a picture captures everything in a different way…..and my camera and I have been on a discovery journey…I just knew I had to share with you. You see this is an intensely fanciful room. The color….…well, to say it is dripping in emerald would be putting it..um…lightly. It is drenched, dunked, saturated in the most glorious Liz Taylor green that your mind’s eye can conjure up…..and I like it that way. Then on top of that titillating color …is a layer of aged gold….but just here and there…where it really makes you want to gasp. Ah…goodness.
P.S. That sink, that gorgeous old marble sink…did I tell you my sweet love gave that to me way before we even built our home…we stored it in our barn for years…..I love a man that dreams.

Funky & eclectic in mind and spirit….Something good happens when you make an effort at new ideas, you lose yourself in the revelation that is happening around you. You grow, you evolve and you see all things as options and opportunities. Try it……you’ll see what I mean.

I found this gem of a rug in Asia….makes me weak in the knees. Partly the memory I have attached to the entire moment I was in…and partly because, well…it really does rock my world. Orange with dragons….how does this not trip your trigger?

I dig function in a bathroom, especially when it imbues a certain splendor. I have always loved a little snap of bamboo here and there….and then a stack of magazines to peruse in a bubble bath…..master the art of pampering yourself. You and everyone around you will beam.

Blissful Abundance to You!

T.

Seriously LOOOVE the gold detailing on the door! did you add it, or purchase it like that?? so curious about it. gorgeous and so unique. So excited about the new TP designs constantly coming out! how exciting! Your customer service is fantastic, now I am able to get the monthly Tracy catalogue in Canada. Thanks TP team! I have to get my purchases shipped to a friends in the states and then when they come, they bring them up. Its like Christmas!! :) so I am quite excited to at least be able to receive the catalogue! Here’s a confession… I am developing a tad bit of an obsession… I am just so in love with everything Tracy Porter! seriously, can’t wait to get up in the mornings and see what new inspiration there is waiting for me! Also, John proved he is a man of substance on your radio show–worthy of the hand of the great one!

What an absolutely fabulous sanctuary! As weird as it sounds, a lovely bubble-tub, glass of wine and a couple candles is my idea of a relaxing retreat in my own home. Away from the boys that seem to inundate my home ~ we have two boys, two male cats and a male dog! Far too much testosterone! Hiding in the retreat with a good book or magazine OR the newest Tracy Porter catalog…now that’s MY idea of tranquility!
Many thanks Tracy for more wonderful ideas!!

Happy Friday everyone!!! Tracy, you bathroom is fantastic! You are going to be so surprised, but I have the little Chinese humidor also!! Isn’t it lovely, and the copper on the inside is so beautiful. It makes my heart sing. I actually have mine in my laundry room underneath a stained glass window. Somewhere along the way, it lost its base. So, I have it on an antique dark tan wicker table. Makes me happy. Also, from your photos the other day….we have the same runner on our stairs. Hmmmmm, no wonder I love your clothes and design so much!! Valery, I have been looking at that teak stool also. It looks perfect! You will love it, and I am sure your legs will look better….because you shaved on a teak stool. Cameo, I LOVE that you are concerned for our circulatory system and venous health! You will be pleased to know that when I work my 12 hour days, I wear the T.E.D. antiembolism hose and wear birkenstocks, merrels, or keens (footwear). Tracy, I know you are cringing at the ugliness here. So sorry, but the remainder of my body is cloaked in Tracy Porter. No one ever sees my feet anyway!! They do however, comment daily on the remainder of my wardrobe!! Cameo, in pharmacy school, I worked in diabetes clinic. I saw all sorts of heinous foot issues both from diabetes and shoes that didn’t fit correctly. It made a HUGE impression on me, so for work I wear shoes that are supremely comfortable. Tracy, for going out to dinner, I wear my “sitting shoes” with my fabulous outfits. Yes, sitting shoes are for when your husband drops you at the door of the restaurant. You rock those fabulous shoes in the door, and promptly sit down to enjoy a cocktail and dinner. The feet look amazing and feel amazing (because those stilettos are not being used to stand). Happy Friday!

It just makes me happy to know that I will be looking pretty amazing in so many of these cloths (I haven’t ordered yet…..oh, but I will). Is there still going to more to come next month…I need to know so I can pace myself. Love the bathroom! I need to find a way to get my four kids to use their own bathrooms. They all use mine. We have four bathrooms in the house and everyone use ONE…MINE. It’as not even that great. I need to add some “greatness” to it and the others. Thanks for the inspriation, again!

Yesterday I listened to John’s radio show podcast as I worked on an oil painting (over the holidays I took some great photos of snowy landscapes, which I am in the process of turning into paintings) and I have to say you were a terrific fill-in for Tracy, John! The hour really flew by, and you were as interesting, and inspiring as Tracy. I was really touched by the Tracy and John story and loved hearing it from John’s perspective. Tracy is creative, and gutsy but she’s lucky to have a husband who has genuinely supported her dream from the beginning. I was really moved by how in the beginning you would take Tracy’s goods around to different boutiques and stores and try to sell them, and how after the two of you started to have some success and orders coming in that you studied up on all that you needed to make the products and business successful. I wasn’t the “Kate” who called into the show but I wanted to comment on how Tracy has inspired me, over the years. The number one thing she has done for me is inspired me to have courage to follow my passions. One of my passions is art. I struggle with finding the time to create art and having the courage to turn it into something bigger than it is…especially in this economy… I think of Tracy’s story often…and how she has followed her passion, and found success at it, even in a tough economy, all while raising a family, I am just amazed by Tracy! It takes courage and commitment and I am inspired by that. Tracy also helps me decorate. And her clothes make feel more beautiful. Thanks again John, for an entertaining and inspiring radio show!

John you did a GREAT job on the radio show!!! You both are such a great TEAM and really an inspiration to all of us. It is so uplifting to listen to the radio show and watch yall’s videos during this economic downturn. Talk about a ray of sunshine in between the news on television and in the papers. I have 5 beautiful children and a wonderful husband and they all laugh when I get in my Tracy Porter creative moods — happy times.

Tracy, I LOVE your bathroom. I go nuts over anything Asian (especially Chinese),so I loved the Chinese touches. I go insane over Foo dogs, and I love to see them pop up all over your house. I think I own the same turquoise Foos that you have … they’re awesome!

Wow!!! is all I can say! Love your romantic bathroom. I do remember it from your hair and make up videos. What a gem to see it again today. Must be such a treat to enter every day – reminds me of a B&B bath, an invitation to another world…and it’s all beautiful. I’m loving the idea of a chandelier in my bath and yours works so perfectly right above the sink. Now I want to run around the house, picking up little treasures to arrange in my bathroom. So much fun! Tracy, hope you discovered lots of lovely treasures on your NYC trip. Wishing you safe travels home.
And I haven’t yet posted since Wednesday, so John this part is for you. Your first radio show was faaaabulouss (imagine the opera). I had to laugh but so appreciate hearing your opera version of “jollification.” It’s catchy isn’t it? I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your version of how you and Tracy met and started your lives and business together. It’s fun hearing the details from both of you that combine into an amazing life/love story. What a creative team you make… you are so truly blessed.
And thanks for your example of diving into something you weren’t sure you were comfortable doing… the radio show. Your comment after “the break,” haha, about not being afraid to make mistakes when trying something new was just what I needed to hear. Really needing that reminder now, so I call it a “happy accident” all the way. Don’t we all need a few moments of silence in our day anyway? Praises to you both for jumping into life with both feet and figuring it out as you go along. What could be more exciting?! Wishing you a happy weekend and I must add one last note because just too darn excited–Geaux Saints!! Will be cheering from the French Quarter on Sunday–who dat! Cheers and love!!

Oh just wanted to say, inspired by your patchwork duster today, and having just read Patti Smith’s memoir “Just Kids” I went all Janis Joplin-y today with a satin charmeuse ruffly poets shirt in silk charmeuse, a crocheted duster, jeans with embroidery up the sides, long jangley beads, big folksy earrings, loads of bracelets and rings and boots…then I sang me and Bobbi McGee all morning wishing I had some round glasses with blue lenses (hah, not really)
If the art teacher can’t pull it off, no one can.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Now I just need to get my hands on the real thing….

You know I think one of the most inspiring things for me of both you John and Tracy is the realness the both of you express – things get messy, heck life gets messy and we have a choice to make it fun, create something new and be gutsy and courageous with how we live our life journey. I’m glad to hear Tracy arrived safely home and am looking forward to the new creations. Love to you both.

Valery…absolutely…who needs doors?
Cute story… a student gave me a compliment on looking so nice today. I told her, oh thanks, I’m channeling my inner Janis Joplin today. She asked, “Who’s that?” I told her Janis was a singer from Port Arthur that sang at Woodstock and hung out with Jimi Hendrix. She said, “Oh cool!”
BTW I saw Bobby McFerrin at the Kennedy Center back in the 80’s opening for some pianist (who’s name I can’t even remember now) and Wynton Marsalis. Just Bobby, his voice and those sounds me makes. He’s a full orchestra unto himself. It was fantastic. I’ll never forget it.

John: I commented about your great TV/radio voice, but forgot to mention that my husband and I have an interest in the “arts and crafts” movement. We lived in a very, very Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home for 19 years.(Built between 1910 to 1913) it took a long time to build) We sold it about 3 years ago and built a new home with a few of those same touches. It was interesting to hear you quote from Elbert Hubbard. You and Tracy certainly have a variety of interests!!!!

JOHN PORTER,
Yeah,I listened to the Weds.,radio show (on podcast),and I want you to know I hated everything about it. That’s right,I HATED EVERYTHING about it!…
-hated the very pleasant and soothing sound of your voice…
-hated, the way you remembered every single mesmerizing detail of how you met and fell in love with Tracy (EVERY SINGLE DETAIL!! FROM 20 YRS. AGO!!!)
-hated, that you can still talk about it with so much admiration, respect and love in your voice…
-hate,the way you are still head over heels in love with this woman,Tracy, even today(after 20 YRS. of living and working together everyday!)…
-hate the fact you’re so good looking,a great cook,a great maker of delicious cocktails and at the same time an incredible romantic…
-hate that Scott Brown has absolutely nothing on you, even in his HOT SHOT,Cosmo centerfold photo…
I could go on & on & on but best I stop now.
I thought my parents were the only two people who had found each others true soulmate.
They had a phenominal relationship, with deep love, respect and admiration for each other, that
far surpassed any other couple I have known, until, MR.and MRS.JOHN and TRACY PORTER came into my life(that other ONE IN A MILLION couple)HAPPY,BEAUTIFUL,TALENTED etc.etc.etc..
All that being said,I am sooooo looking forward to listening to you on the show, much more often…..(guess I’m just a Masocist!) :)
LOVE,LOVE,LOVE, ALL YOU FANTASTIC AND GRACIOUS, PORTERS!!!!

Tracy-I love this post! I have always thought that a bathroom should NEVER be ignored! Think of all the important time you spend in there…showering and, er, putting on make up. I especially love your example of bold color use. Gives courage to us all!

P.S. Also had to say…that I love your combination of hardware colors…chrome lighting fixtures, and bronze elsewhere. So many times I find myself debating…do I do brushed nickle or nickle, gold or bronze, silver or….
Then I am reminded…do what you LIKE…and it will some how come together!

Giddy up Tracy! I have been anticipating your February line up of clothing fashion and interior design with baited breath and curious engagement. I may spend 2 to 4 hours on your wedsite surfing when I come home from work it is my way to unwind. Everything I need is here and it fills me with satisfacton and peace. Shopping with you “TracyPorter.com” is a spoon full of sugar, the website itself has its own uniqueness and addictive lust. I can honestly say that going to the mall is one of the most boring activities that I have had to participate in a long time. Driving around a crowded mall, finding a Parking spot, finding the right department, fighting the crowds, waiting for the cashier. Should I go on? No~! But, shopping at Tracy’s is fab it is a Blast.
No crowds no fighting the elements of weather or finding a cashier that is pleasent, not at Tracy’s. The attitude of you fashion design counselors is excellent. I am happy to say I shop at Tracy Porters. Free advertisement. The product name (Tracy Porter)in an effort to associate related qualities with the brand in the minds of consumers. You got it going on baby! XXOO M’lis

Tracy,
Looking over your website while “watching” the superbowl (mostly commercials) with the family and wanted to post you a note. I can’t wait to get your february catalog! I keep all of mine all over the house – they are so beautiful! My husband will say to me from time to time – “I like that (fill in the blank item). You should get that!”. He has also said “I like her clothes and the way they look on you”. Now you must know that he is very sweet and complimentary to me in everyway, but I thought you might appreciate how he appreciates your designs! Enjoy your cocktail – my hubby made one for me, too!
xoxo

Okay…I have a black dining room wall that we write anything and everything on…it is so great to get the point across to my children and play teacher! Heehee.
I’m writing because I love the Saints and I’m hoping to see them win the Superbowl…and the WHO! What a show
that dates me…but LOVE them and they still rock. Okay, my point is there is a guy that plays for them that is Tracy Porter, and every time I hear his name mentioned I think of paisley and bohemian fun because of you Tracy.
I think this is funny….

Yes, TRACY PORTER did win the Super Bowl for the Saints! Even though I was cheering for the other team, congrats Tracy–you truly are the queen of plethora!!! :) My daughter (8 years old) heard the announcer and asked, “Tracy Porter is selling her clothes at the Super Bowl????” Too funny!

John, I just listened to the podcast and you did a fantastic job. I loved your genuine and honest nature. You and Tracy are both so humble and generous! I hope you had fun hosting the show, and I certainly had fun listening. Tracy, I vote you have John host or co-host again!! He was lovely. John, your theme song for next show should be “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge. It seems to fit. Thanks for all you and the Tracy Porter “family” do each day to make our lives a bit more inspired.

My dear bloggers,

I am so proud of my gal. Just when we thought we knew who she was and what she did, this….

Yahoo Sports
“Tracy Porter delivered the dagger…to win their first Super Bowl.”
(UPS next day even)

The New York Times
“It’s a big day for New Orleans, and an especially big one for Tracy Porter….”
(What with all the new introductions and all…)

Associated Press
“…and Tracy Porter…clinched it.”
(I think they meant to say, ‘chinched it’.)

The Los Angeles Times
“And the Saints sealed the deal in dramatic fashion, with Tracy Porter….”
(‘dramatic fashion’. Yes, like that.)

USA Today
“Tracy Porter kicked off the party on Bourbon Street….”
(Here too!)

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
“Tracy Porter put the finishing touches on the victory….”
(…with a dashing FAIRY FOLK EMBROIDERED SCARF)

SunHerald.com
“Tracy Porter made the play of the game in Super Bowl XLIV.”
(…by dazzling them with the Segur Malachite Bracelet)

Toronto Sun
“…but it was that late pick by Tracy Porter that sealed Indianapolis’ fate.”
(I think they meant the Callista Duster Cardigan – now that’s a great pick!)

Philadelphia Inquirer
“With Peyton Manning pushed flat on his face, lying helplessly on the ground, Tracy Porter streaked….”
(Hmmmm)

Bleacher Report
“Back and forth scoring made it a much more watchable game, but it was Tracy Porter’s pick six off Peyton Manning that really caused excitement….”
(I think it was the Louisa Beaded Handbag that REALLY caused excitement)

There is definitely more to come from Tracy Porter!

Tracy! I have to tell you, I cannot see photos of this gorgeous bathroom of yours without recalling the video when you showed us all the secret to your pretty locks of loose curls–your old roller set! I DID go out and buy a nice little $15 compact set at Target right after that video and use them often to get the same type of just enough curl Thank you belatedly! And p.s. on that: I always struggled with curling the end of the hair onto the roller without bending it all askew until I saw your video…you put the roller in the middle of the section, wrap the end around, then roll it all up. So simple yet I had no idea! : ) Love the flowers on the wall, too,,, perfect touch!
