Tips for Springtime Decorating!

As the sand hill cranes swoop into our marsh singing their melodious song to tell us it is spring….I can’t help but want to get out to our porch to clean and freshen and await!! Now, in our part of the country this is way premature, but you know….I am a dreamer, and well…why not plan now!! I am so excited by the new mix of furniture, lamps, art, tables, chairs….& random little pretties that we have just popped up on our site…..I am over the moon giddy with ideas!

A few springtime thoughts to freshen up your world and your porch!!

  • New pillows will revive any chair, from the porch to the kitchen they are perfection in my book!!
  • I hang art right on the walls of our porch, I am quite keen on the way it allows our “outside “ room to feel a part of our home….
  • I also love the idea of lamps on a porch or any outdoor room, I keep them close to the house with the most protection from the elements of course, but they add a truly magical layer!
  • If you do have a porch, sunroom, or even a foyer that needs a glorious springtime lift….try a chandelier…a magical mainstay to me…. that will add a layer to awaken all that enter!
  • Consider a range of textures when decorating any porch type room. Wicker & bamboo are of course lovely and exotic in any form….but consider throws, books, mirrors….even rugs!!

Cheers and Happiness…

Tracy, do show us any springtime changes you make in ANY rooms of your home. I’d appreciate it. You inspire me more than all the decorating magazines that come in to my house. Now that’s a quite a compliment. Cheers and blessings.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious The roots of the word have been defined[3] as follows: super- “above”, cali- “beauty”, fragilistic- “delicate”, expiali- “to atone”, and docious- “educable”, with the sum of these parts signifying roughly “Atoning for educability through delicate beauty.” Although the word contains recognizable English morphemes, it does not follow the rules of English morphology as a whole and backwards..dociousaliexpilisticfragicalirupus…..this means……something to say when you have nothing to say…..lolololo.o HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONTH……GIRLFRIEND OF MINE!!!!!! Happy Birhtday Tracy!!!!!!!!!!Just listened to the show, I have a similar inpsiration to yours, but it reminded me of this…..I must share, after my Grandmother passed away {we all called her Nonnie} we found a treasure in one of her cook books…She had this habbit of always leaving little notes for everyone, but this was different,a special note tucked away in a place I think she wanted us to find after she had passed, anyway in her hand writting on a recipe card it says: God Bless this beautiful family of mine. Thank you all, Nonnie. I now have if framed in this adorable shadow box type frame in my kitchen, and it is a constant reminder to me everyday of how inspiring she was to me, in so many ways. Anyway, alittle personal, but I don’t mind sharing with great ladies like all of you! Have a great day, I may do some more easter decorating today, it will be here soon, and we are hosting!!! Love to all!

I got my pocket of inspiration today from my dear friend’s kitchen window. She has dolled it up with stacks of beautiful books, a vintage children’s tea set, candles galore and bits and bobs of delight at every corner. She has inspired me to do over my own window and improve my view. Can’t wait!

Good morning TRACY! Just catching up on the podcast. I can echo what LAURA said above – you are a deep pocket of inspiration for me – as are all of you bloggers. I hate to miss a word any of you say and, Tracy, everything – your radio show, your videos, your designs, your attitude – all act like sparkplugs and get me excited about new things to do. I also found some extra inspiration this last weekend. We hosted a college athletic team (21 college students stayed and ate with us!). Though it was cozy, those kids were soooo polite and appreciative and felt pampered. They were also organized and motivated and hard-working – wow!- truly an inspiration – our world is in good hands!

Good afternoon Tracy and birds of a feather! Just back from Key West, where I saw an amazing display of Artesian Road, complete with lifesize peacock. The setting was stunning (at the dept. store Fast Buck Freddies–the terrible name doesn’t fit the fabulous wares!). And i thought the only Tracy Porter down there would be the clothes I packed!
I’m looking forward to catching up on the podcasts and all of your inspiring words here…

T,……….I ADORE decorating outside pockets of goodness!!!!! I have a Cabana Room/ covered porch, by the pool that has a chandy, rugs, buffet, pictures, mirrors, a table with garden chairs, asian chairs, and even a wingback chair!!!!! It’s fun for entertaining, and enjoying hors d’ oeuvres…….. made these whispy, gauzy curtains that flow in the wind and keep the pollen, insects, and some moisture from getting in. It’s over the moon FUN!!!! You DURLS must try this idea!!!! HINT: I have found that you can use a high temp glue gun to glue plates, and lightweight pictures to brick and stucco. And it works swimmingly!!!!! It’s easy to peel off, if you want to rearrange things later!!!!!!!!
SALLY,……. I know the green coat your daughter wore yesterday,…..the VERIDIAN!!!!!! It is a knock-out !!!!!
KRae,….love,……break the rules baby,……..it’s just too high maintenance keeping up with the dos and don’ts!!!!!
RACHEL,…YAY for teachers!!!!!!!
LINDA in WI,……YES, YES,… the TOULOUSE is KILLER!!!!!! A great Spring Fling Cardigan!!!!!! I think DESIREE has that one!!!!
DAWN,……that sweet POWELL!!!!!
JUDY,…..that is really good news…….there is a bright future for us all,….
For me,…….I get a “Pocket of Inspiration” from PARENTS that are working really hard to teach their KIDs the difference………I have just recently started walking up to those parents,…. and thanking them,…. for what they are doing…… We ALL need to support each other……….

My pocket of inspiration has been you, Tracy, and Cameo, and all you other runners and exercisers! I took Tracy’s words (from her radio show the other week) to “Get outside, and get moving” to heart and began running around the block this week! I feel sooooo much better! You are the little bird sitting on my shoulder telling me to get out and move. Thank you for all you do and Happy Spring and Happy Birthday. INSPIRING is my word for you! Much love.

Hi, Tracy and blogettes! Listened to the podcast over coffee this morning, and then found my pocket of inspiration in my new Cooking Light magazine which arrived yesterday. Spring is in the air, and I’m so inspired to start cooking for the season! Out with the cozy, hearty fireside fare. It’s time to turn my sights to asparagus, fiddleheads, rhubarb, spring lamb, and my herb garden. Would love to see some new cooking videos. Bon appetit!!

I love store fronts and antique store vignettes. Ok, you did say pocket(s)…It looks like I have “one hand in my pocket and the other one is giving a HI five”. I love that there is inspiration everywhere…it’s all in your perspective. Tracy you reminded me on the show this week that staying inspired is something we have to work at…like anything else worthwhile in our life. Thanks for that reminder because sometimes we can lose it and find ourselves in a rut, down in the dumps or just plain crabby but it is our choice to stay there or come out of it and shine! Enjoy your birthday month. D…:)

Ah Spring – has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the flowers is….

No grass here yet and certainly no flowers… I am jealous to my core when I hear of hydrangeas budding – could there be anything sweeter?

Valery – please bring your blower for the cobwebs of my mind.. I am still coping with the time change…

Dear Tracy – I want a porch. But you have inspired me to do some spring “sprucing” this weekend, and I am FINALLY going to tackle painting the inside of my gazebo. I mean it… I am….

Hi Tracy, Yes spring is in the air down here in Bama. Today has been spectacular and I was out cleaning out flower beds and dreaming of all the lovely little things that I will plant in a couple weeks. The earth is waking up for a new season and boy am I ready for some green lusiousness. I too love creating great outdoor spaces using all kinds of things from furniture to neat old rusty stuff, old wagons and lots of mossy things.I just love to have special little quite places to go to and just sit and enjoy natures beauty and be inspired, so I have placed little benchs in different locations all around our property that I can steal away to for a peaceful moment.
One more random thought. Do you know the Chinese definition for magpie? It literally means “bird of joy”. It is believed that when a magpie sings, it foretells good luck and the arrival of a welcome guest. How cool is that. I think that describes you to a tee. You are just a sweet bird of joy for all of us girls out here. Thank you for sharing such wonderfulness with us, you are truly a rare bird.
Happy Spring! Power to the boxwoods! xoxo Nancy S.

Tracy,
Good afternoon! I just listened to the show and would like to share my pocket of inspiration… I love going to my friends house, her home is so welcoming and her back yard is beyond beautiful! It is filled with so many pretty things. Everything is starting to green-up and it is so inspiring, after I leave her house I have to go and buy flowers and plants so I can get my hands in the dirt. It is such a beautiful and inspiring place to be. Happy Spring!!

I find inspiration in nature, in magazines and books, music, art, Tracyporter.com, in memories of my Grandmother, in God, in love. Inspiration can be found anywhere if you just open your senses and become aware of the details. Life itself is inspiration, to do better, to be better, to make the most of the time we have.

I know I’m not the only one who loves what they see on the website…and then gets it home to be amazed at how much more lovely it is in person… I am truly thrilled when I know a package is coming from TP- I’m thinking “could the UPS guy be any slower???” but more than the anticipation of the beautiful things is the great gaining of ability to look around my house and think “wow, what could I do here or there…” I love to change things up- I have ruined my husband on things ever being the same for too long, I will not buy a “set” of anything…not chairs…not a bedroom set…nothing. I hate too much of the same- so boring! I love a mixture! I thought I was a bit nuts until I started reading the TP website! Glad to know I’m not alone…and it definitely is so heartwarming to look through all the beautiful pages of clothes, and homegoods- nothing around compares to it! Every time someone I know compliments my clothes they say”oh is that from that website you love???” I say “YES!” I love how it mixes with what I have already and items from past seasons…by the way the poets embroidered sweater goes with anything…I mean it! And… Ive worn the utopia shawl with all sorts of things in this crazy Nashville weather…to church…to jeans…to bowling…it’s so cute! Now please just start making shirts for the bustier of your following! Ha!!! We need it!!!
