Red Lip Tips for the Holidays…Simply Luscious!
You know, I love a good red lip…..well, I should clarify….a luscious “blue red” lip. I am all about color (it’s what I do) and the most spot-on red lip to wear this holiday seems to be from YSL. I have certain needs when it comes to lip therapy (I am a junkie)…..No joke, if I have forgotten my lipstick, chapstick, or something to keep my lips perfectly moist…I will take a tiny dab of butter or olive oil right from the table and go with that…(and you think I am kidding…remember I am a farm girl so this is nothing!) This one feeds my needs! The name doesn’t hurt….Rouge Volupte Red Taboo # 18…………You’ll love how creamy this is…and SPF 15..bonus! A darling golden tube (I am a sucker for packaging you know)…a wee mirror on the tip….does it get any better?!!!
Check it out!!! ……ROUGE VOLUPTE ….RED TABOO #18……purrrrr!!!!

A few thoughts when donning this succulent red lip….
* You’ll look vintage and modern at once with a sassy red lip….about the best eclectic vibe out there my loves!
* Tone down your eyes….and not too much cheek, we are going for elegant cool…(think Cate Blanchett…not Jessica Rabbit)
* When I wear a BIG red lipstick like this I always dab foundation along the edge of my lips, it will keep the goods where they belong
* Watch your teeth girls…..no one wants to look like their teeth are bleeding…..
* This is a good time to use a lip brush…steady with the hand, same with the liner…keep it inside the lip….
* I prefer a nude nail with a big red lip….you know, highs and lows…..works in all walks of life!

Hey there, everyone….TRACY, being a farm girl, you must have used BAG BALM!!….my mother-in-law turned me on to it years ago and I swear by it….it’s used by farmers to keep dairy cows from becoming chapped in the winter, but it’s also great for us humans, too!!…made in Vermont since 1899 and comes in a cute little red and green can…..you can find it at drug stores, farm/ranch supply, feed stores, and hardware stores…you can also order directly at http://www.bagbalm.com ….since I’m a fair-skinned redhead (auburn), I use YSL’s Red Muse, #17….it’s an orangey-red which really complements us redheaded durls….I’m off to start prepping for T-Day…baking cornbread for the dressing and making turkey giblet stock for the gravy….cheers and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!….warmly, Kat
Good Morning Tracy….Ohhh I just have to do red nails and red toenails….but only for the holidays…..its just makes me swoon…..I have always had plump lips with no injections…llolo…so red made me look all lips…but as you get older things shrink….and now I could use the pump….but no needles for me and the cost is red..iculus!!! Anther great vacation day…I got my new bedding and let me tell you…..the quality is divine….but the odd thing was…the dust ruffle wasnt one of the full ones that go underneath the top mattress…it comes with bar pins and you tack it into your mattress….looks of work to make a beautiful bed…..but it is fine and ruffles my inner self….I do like to pamper…….no peas for me….I would just eat them….lolololool
THANK YOU for your TPDI…..if I could only pop in on you once in awhile just to draw that wonderful energy…..most that I am around just dont have it…..so I welcome you daily my Dear Friend…..have fun today……and consider yourself hugged to the nineth degree!!
Tracy:
I just love your beauty tips-because you are a true beauty inside and out!!I always carry lip balm or chapstick or lipstick for my chronic chapped lips so this is really a treat! Something I found that really works is the sugar lip balm from FRESH-believe me ,I have tried them all-this is GOOD.Happy Thanksgiving from one lip balm girl to another! XO Jean

Good Morning Tracy! Just bought the bacon for Rumaki-your recipe….I am glad you mentioned it
last week on your radio show…….and left it on your site. Gingerbread houses are baking in the oven….I am tweaking the garland hanging next to my desk…now all I need is some red lipstick…that is a great beauty tip!! Do you know I have never tried red on my lips(strawberry-blonde, fair-skinned)…but Nicole Kidman always wears it(she’s fair-skinned etc.)…..so, if Tracy and Nicole are wearing it….it has to be right!! Timer going off….oops!(puffing up and over form, it should settle down if I remember right)That first one is the practice one. Anyways, as always, my gratitude for your gift of being open to share your best and lifting us up to explore the little excitements in life. A very warm Thanksgiving Wish to you and yours….Margie (I’ll keep you posted on the red lipstick!!)
OH Myyyyyyyyyyyy TRACY love,……. you are romancing my soul with the color RED…… I was just informing Demi that I have been contemplating painting my nails red today………so a quick change in plans………..red lips and bare nails! Gotcha Babe!!!!!
Well loves, it looks like PaPa Cameo is still with us…..Thanks to all of you lovely souls for the loving and caring comments here on the blog and the emails I received over the weekend. As I mentioned to TP on Friday, his illness has been a long drawn out roller coaster. My Mother will not release my Father, he senses it,……and he will not let go………. Just when we think we are losing him, he bounces back like a rubber ball. The Hospice Doctors say they have never seen anyone with such strong will. I am certain there is a master plan here,…..so I will continue to keep “looking up” as our darling TP has always recommended!
Allrighty then,…………..I shall straighten my frock, tie on my apron , and start slinging pots and pans!!!!!!!!! I have a turkey and dressing to bake and pecan pies to make………Carpe Diem loves!!!!!!!!! And a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you Beautiful Jewels……. Must go, Demi is finishing up a research paper, and my RED ink pen is in waiting!
Love you sooooooooo

Tracy, I look at that YSL lipstick tube…and I see a Tracy Porter RING in its design! You know I have several of your beautiful rings, and I wear them whenever I need a little boost – they ALWAYS help. I’m with you on the butter, olive oil, or anything else that will make lips un-chapped. Lansinoh is another winner for this purpose (you know, the lanolin for new mothers…) – I think we’ve blogged about that before. Anyway, three cheers for Robyn and warm wishes to you and all of your family and team for a lovely, RESTFUL Thanksgiving break!
Tracy,
I just spent a wonderful morning listening to your past radio broadcasts while polishing the silver for Thanksgiving dinner. The polishing lapsed off after awhile – too many suggestions to sit and have tea and cookies … so I did! I loved hearing your suggestions for destressing the holiday. For Thanksgiving we’ll be celebrating with dear friends of ours. My friend and I found a great menu in Real Simple magazine, and have split up the recipes, so neither one of us is overwhelmed. I also plan to make trifle for dessert after watching your great video (… in addition to all the pies!). I can’t tell you how much I enjoy both your videos and your radio programs. They’re just so, well, INSPIRATIONAL!!! I feel like I’m listening to a kindred spirit. I firmly believe in living an artful life, and daring to be oneself. After watching a few videos, I always have the need to putter about the house, creating new vignettes. I’ve told everyone I know about your website. Thank you so much!!!!
Thanks for the lipstick tips! It’s always so hard to find the right color. I’m going to try this one. What kind of chapstick do you find to be the best? I was also wondering what kind of lotion you’ve talked about before that you buy from Target. You and Sarah mentioned it on one of the videos where you were talking about pampering yourself by having goodies at your bedside table. I look forward to your blog every day. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Tracy!
Thanks for the red lipstick primer – I, too, love a good red and in fact went out to a gala dinner with a lovely red lip last night. But I was all flummoxed, as I was wearing a silver dress that was slightly too long and felt dowdy, so am off to the tailor’s tomorrow to lop 2 inches off the bottom!
Happy Thanksgiving to all you lovely Americans on Thursday! The grand thing about having a different holiday here in Canada is that we do ours in October and then get to enjoy yours from a distance in November! More is more I always say!!!
CAMEO…thinking of you during these hard times and praying for your family.
Happy Thanksgiving to all and TRACY…that ROBYN is a gem…both lucky ladies to have each other. Thanks for the YSL red….love her and will wear often
Tracy and all–Happy Thanksgiving! We are in Steamboat Springs, CO for the holiday week….I brought many tp items…wearing the scottish cardigan as I type! Tracy, this red lipstick thing made me laugh. I remember my Mom saying…wear mascara and lipstick, particularly red….it brings out your eyes. I do that for dressing up but as I’ve gotten older I sometimes feel like it looks like I”m playing “drees up!”. I will give it a whirl again as I have many reds in my bathroom drawer for “special occasions” Wore your gypsy tunic Saturday to a big party for 70 we had (wine tasting/wine drinking mostly) and it was a big hit! I LOVE that shirt!….maybe in a different color next time??? As we are packing today my husband asks “why do you have 40 of these green Tracy POrter bags in our linen closet?”…guessI’m not so good at hiding.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and your beautiful family. I’m sure you LOVE these times with your wonderful decorating ideas and adorable boys and hubby…enjoy girlfriend!!
Lovely packagin! I have always wanted to wear red lipstick and though my wardrobe is playful and daring, I’ve never been able to pull off red. Think I need to go to Sephora and have one of those girls with perfect faces choose just the right shade for me. The YSL tube IS delicious. As a lip junkie like you all, I have been wanting to try this organic chai lip balm…yum! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34599871
KAT: I will add Bag Balm to the list, too. Love Vermont! (and that packaging…) Just added the Heaven & Earth sequin tank to my ever-growing wish list after you mentioned it. Tracy, it looks so good with your eyes and coloring–how do you do that!??!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I am definitely bookmarking this page and sharing it with my friends.
Hi Tracy,
You asked us to share some of our thoughts on the “rawness of life”.
To me rawness is looking at your face in the mirror, and seeing a new wrinkle and accepting the fact that you are getting older. But I am also wiser and I really like who I am so much more now, than when I was younger. I no longer try to impress others, but embrace those special moments with the people I love the most…my husband, my children and a few close friends. I look within and realize I’m not perfect, but I AM a good person that has been blessed in so many ways.
Over the past ten years I started to collect antiques and little “imperfect” accessories with rich history. My kids wondered why are you getting rid of the newer furniture Mom…and bringing in this old junk. Because that old piece of junk has a history and it spoke to me some how. I love my home, because it is warm, inviting and comfortable. My kids can put their feet up on the old trunk that serves as a coffee table and they can just live comfortably. I love the shabby feel and the yummy romantic colors in my house so much, I started my own “little” shop last year where I sell furniture and home accessories, because I wanted to love my job. I don’t make a whole lot of money, but I’m happy and that is the rawness of life…just live and love!!!
I love your messages Tracy…keep inspiring us all.
