Tracy Porter Decorating Video: Tracy Porter whirls her foyer together with some added soul…

Don’t we all want every corner of our homes to reflect the personality of the souls who live there? You know, the really good stuff. If a guest came into your abode and quietly walked herself around on a self-guided exploration… wouldn’t we all hope that she’d find a little dose of us as she passed through every threshold? The color, the textures, the combinations… the scent…… the light as it dances through the windows… the history… the memories of all held dear… the current moment of our family’s days… photos, toys, crumbs, the dust and all…

Well, our foyer needed an armload of goodness. Now I will say… the foyer is one of our favorite spots in the house… Cozy and eclectic… but not quite homey and comfortable enough for me… She needed some casual soulfulness. Ahh, the layers… We know you love them as much as we… Join me as I whirl this little nest together… Tell us what you do in your version of a foyer, entry, or front entrance hall… We do love the lively chatter……

Cheers to comfortable living!

xoxox,
T.

Tracy, I loved this! It’s just what I want to do to the powder room. The walls are painted and I do love them but the room is not complete. I need to fluff it up! I am begging you gals out there for more advice. LOL Love hearing from all of you.

AHHHH! Soulfulness achieved! I have that same set of figural bird salt and peppers! Have to take them out of the china cabinet and “vignette” with them. That green Han horse is gorgeous- is it one of your designs? I love the way you use the lantern to hold your hydrangea stems- so artful. Also, couldn’t help but notice the tiny golden foo dogs perched on the molding by the doors….

Artist- Could you send me a pic, too? I’m at petmail@bellsouth.net. I’m dying to see your peacock!!

Also, I want to out a big plug out for Emily, another talented bloggette. I purchased a gorgeous vintagey, soulful necklace and vintage wallet from her Etsy site. They are so beautiful, Lady Em! And the packaging could not have been prettier! They arrived yesterday and I’m wearing the necklace today. Thank you so much!!!

Tracy, I just love foyers. I do wish mine was bigger and not so narrow. I would love a round table to great guests. And Tracy, there are so many things I love about you, but one thing is that you talk with your hands. I mean you really talk with your hands!! I do the same and without realizing it!! Anyway, I think this is something very cute about you : ). And JENNIFER, wow, thank you so much for purchasing from me! I had no idea you were a TP reader. I really appreciate your comments on this blog. If others are interested in seeing my stuff you can click on my name or go to http://www.LadyEM.etsy.com. And last but not least, “hi” LISA in Littleton. I’m your neighbor in Highlands Ranch!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just what I needed this am….a distraction to working out and computer work but how glorious!!!!!! I LOVED the fact that you showed us your “layering” technique in and out of the room…so fun to watch you bring your treasures into a space…It’s that time of year when we’re all ready for something new…spring is coming soon…I can feel the need to be refreshed by looking at the same space but in a whole new way!!! Many thanks for the inspiration:) P.S. I LOVE hydranga’s (sp?) too..they are great no matter what time of year!

Oh Tracy that all I can say is LOVELY!!!! I just love watching you pull things together. Ladies, I own a little gift store in my small town on Ada, Ok and this sight is such an inspiration for me. I love getting on here and reading all your delicious comments and letting my creative side be filled with extraordinary ideas. Tracy keep it coming and ladies don’t stop commenting you don’t know how you keep me feeling alive. Oh artist I would love to see the peacock http://www.thebrownbox@sbcglobal.net
Can’t wait to chat tomorrow. Oh I have another “OH” who is singing that song at the end–I need that. I remember hearing that on here some other time. It makes me smile:)

Tracy, everytime you do one of these videos where you pull things together that you already have is just so killer!!! That table is to die for and please don’t tease us. Bring it back someday soon…Love it. My foyer is very narrow as the stairs are in that space, but I did seem to fit a small metal table and vingette’d (sp) as much as I could, but now after this I must do more!!!! Happy trails to you and Sarah and don’t fill up on the shark lips :-) Hope you find many goodies to bring back and show us.

Tracy love, You are right,….. this is sooooo N’awlins!!!! I lived there for several years and this is exactly what is going on there…… That French blood that runs through your veins…….. is on target!…. Love your idea,…… and I do as well,…. have a big ornate chunky chair in the foyer…..My hubby says I need to put wheels on all of our furniture!… I love to move things around often…… About once a month, my VISUAL NEEDS change….. so I start the process of moving …… It can sometimes be quite a workout,…. so I skip the gym on that day!…. I have learned to position a heavy piece of furniture on a blanket,…… and PULL…….. it will save your back love!!!!!… But I DO so agree……scratches on the floor have so much character!!! …Hope all is well…… in the big Hong Kong!!!!
Emily….. thanks for sharing…..Love the cuff bracelet!!!
Artist,……as I mentioned before, I would look for something bamboo to add to your powder room…… and paint it gold…….gold bamboo would look smashing with your peacocks and crabapples! Have you checked out Tracy’s lighting???… she has such
a great sale going on…. I think I would try to get one of her signature pieces…….. go big /gaudy for the chandelier…… those peacocks need to be grazing under something magical!!!!!! ……Cameoxoxo

Tracy – your ability to layer and delight our senses is unmatched. I’m about to run through the house to amp up my foyer…before friends come over this evening. Love, love this – and I was dying over you draggin’ the furniture. I do this all the time. Note: buy “coasters” from Home Depot, stick under furniture. It allows you to move THE biggest pieces in your home! :)

Thanks for all your comments about my etsy shop. Hope you will visit again as I list new stuff all the time. Artist, I once saw a powder room in a magazine where they removed the doors from the vanity and replaced with fabric just to bring in another texture. I think velvet embellished with tapestry trim or tassels would spice up your gorgeous powder room! If you have a pedestal sink, this will of course not work, but just an idea!

Tracy, a few questions…When you said “burlap” on your chair did you really mean burlap, the scratchy stuff or some “burlap-like” fabric? I’m always looking to cover up stains from teenagers or cat and dog scratches!! Also, did I see 2 different patterns of flocked wallpaper in that room? LOOOOVVVEE!! I did “Tracy-up” my foyer and it looks pretty good…London wall and all, but I really either want to paint it red or use flocked wallpaper. I’m working up to it! Back to work now. You all are a great lunchtime break for me! ( I just ate leftover Tabboleh for lunch. It’s even better today than it was last night.) Tracy, one day how about making scones with us. Nothing better with your tea!! I’ve been experimenting with them, trying to find the perfect scone. I bet you have a great recipe to share, don’t you?! P.S. Artist, I like Cameo’s idea about gold bamboo!

Gretchen and girls, I ordered the Anthropology Tea House olive green glass door knob for the powder room. Pam suggested I look there and she was spot on! Cameo, I don’t have room for a bamboo shelf, would a gold bamboo wastebasket do? How do you feel about leopard hand towels? Help me please! LOL

Shawn, post your foyer on your site and we will run over and voice our opinions. This group can do it…look what they did for me.

I live in a townhome and my entry is like Boom! you’re in the door and up a stairway you go. You can’t even turn around. So what I do is make little vignettes going up the stairway using candles, angels, books, birds, etc. . .
I change it every month but I still am able to welcome people with a candlelit entry. Everyone loves it.
Tracy, thanks for wearing that Winsome top. It looks divine on you! I just ordered it this weekend and love the way you showed it with jeans, belt, and tee underneath. Now I’m more excited than ever for it to arrive!
Your foyer is a total WOW! Loved the music added to this, too. “I’ve got the world in my arms. . . ” Your design makes our souls sing!

Artist- not to sound too matchy, matchy but I think towels in a dark coral/persimmon would look smashing with that beautiful scroll work you painted…and YES a gold bamboo wastebasket!

Emily- wore my new “time to open your heart”necklace today. My 4 year old thoroughly checked it out- I read her the message and we examined the keyhole and watch face VERY carefully- her favorite part of course was the sparkly heart. Then she looked up at me with big, blue, wonder eyes and said “but Mommy- where’s the key?” At which point I scooped her up in huge bear hug and told her that she was the key! I wish you could have seen the look on her face!!!

I am so inspired! I feel like going in and saying “Hurry up on my new house,” to the very kind workers so I can get to work decorating that foyer! It’s long and tall with 25 foot ceilings so will be a challenge but now I feel up to the task:) Can’t wait to welcome some of our beautiful natural elements in. The other great news is that when our home is finished, I will have the Granny Unit as a beautiful Wine Country rental home for all Tracy Porter fans who are ready to visit Sonoma County, CA!
True confession: I LOVE this song that Tracy uses in her Unplugged video so much and very excited to have the artist and name – I actually turn on my computer and play it sometimes when I am in need of a “pick up”. Just makes me think of a more beautiful world and my role in working toward that goal.
I am so excited to share Barefoot Books with all of you classy women who visit each day – enjoy! … Emily, I will be visiting your Etsy again – love your designs!

We were at Pier one in Fon du Lac Wi and they had 2 Foo Dog lamps on sale for 29.00 a piece Medium sized orginal price 60.00. I didnt buy any Dont really have a place for one, But I did buy a horse figure, similer to the one Tracy used in the beautiful foyer make over. I also spend several hours a day on this site. So addicting! The wine also!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tracy, I went back and watched the video again. Now I see that it’s only one wallpaper pattern… LOVE it. Also, Dawn, I visited your blog and saw your foyer. Nice start to your London Wall. Keep going with it. I wouldn’t be afraid to add all of those to one wall, maybe. Also add a pillow or two to your leopard chair with the red throw. We have similar wall color. I’m thinking about painting darker or wallpapering also. You go first!!

TRACY… I ADORED that video from today with moving all those wonderful pieces and creating such a DELICIOUS looking foyer! I love to ‘tweak’ our entry way, and this has given me some more ideas… AND .. who knew you could also enjoy DEAD hydrangeas as an arrangement too? LOVE this idea… AND the birdcage you put them in.
Unfortunately I spoke (wrote) too soon this morning… as John is NOT feeling all that much better… and we have had to postpone our trip back home to the Cape tomorrow… until late Saturday… 2:00 Am arrival back home.

Cameo, you are cracking me up! Thank you for holding down the fort and checking on my whereabouts! I’ve just been busy with my weekend seminar and then a full house yesterday when everyone was home on a snow day!

Sarah and Tracy, so glad your trip was smooth…how cool are you to be keeping up with us over here as you do your business in China? May your trip be a safe, happy success in all ways!

I just had to place another order today after reading about the goodies people are happy with! I went for the Hollis Paisley dress (thanks Pam! Hang in there…you’ll be wearing it as soon as that baby’s born!), the Olive Crochet Cardigan, the Equestrian Trench Coat, the Modern Trench Coat, the Charcoal Fine-Knit Cami and the Agean Necklace. Hooray for gift certificate credits!!

Just checked back in after placing the order, only to find NEW GOODIES!!! Tracy and company, you are tantalizing us – everything is gorgeous and I am just chomping at the bit as I glimpse little swatches of gloriousness peeking out in the videos…it’s like waiting for Christmas to arrive! Tracy & Sarah! so glad you made it safely and had a good trip!

Artist, I haven’t seen your powder room but have you checked out tracy’s gold leaf candleholder, her 3 gilded sparrows, her 3 mirrors(they look antiqued and you wouldn’t have to use all 3 together) also, don’t know if you have her “birds of a feather”…but if you click on the pic’s and enlarge, I like the turquoise one which is trimed in gold, and maybe another color would work to just work in one or two here or there on a shelf.(they really are gorgeous)

Good luck! it sounds gorgeous!

Dawn, LOVE your London wall! you did a great job!(i’m still working up to mine) and also love your blog! beautiful family! :-)

P.S. Does anyone own the Mystique Tunic? I love it but am not sure how it would do skimming (or hugging…) my post-partum “curves.” Does it run small or large in particular? It looks so pretty on the screen and on Tracy (and Robyn, in the photos)! Thank you…I love all aspects of the blog but this one, in which we can trade sizing info, is particularly helpful!

ARTIST- HAAA! You have me laughing…Cameo is on a roll tonight, huh?! Ok about your global accessories try Cost Plus World Market they have to have something bamboo that you can gussy up.
CAMEO and LADIES- I am loving that this is turning into the troubleshooting station…my TV/fireplace wall is killing me. I love the room except for the horrible glaring 20 foot wall of blah! Imagine plain granite gas fireplace with flat screen above, niches on each side and above, and a “mantle” that runs the length of the whole hideous thing. OK… the wall and I obviously have issues!!
BTW- Does anyone else have a LOATHING of Niches?
CAMEO- I know you can come up with something for me, PLEEESE I’m counting on you!
OK I’ve let you all in on my pain, so I’ll stop and try not to give myself decorating nightmares, LOL!

OH, I forgot to say how much I LOVE your foyer, Tracy! Everything about it. You give me courage to move things around and try new things out! thanks!

What kind of stone is your floor? it’s beautiful. Love the wallpaper….you really have succeeded in making it such an interesting space. IT’s an international cultural experience -in that small space. How extraordinary & fun!(I have a feeling Sarah’s foyer or entry way is spectacular too)

My dear friend brought me back the greatest pair of shoes from Vietman. They have wooden bottoms, and a wide black velvet strap across the top of the foot with soft fuscia sequins sewn together like flowers on the strap part and smaller beads all around. The sole is painted black with bright painted flowers. The sizes aren’t as large there so I use mine for decoration.(but they would look sooo good with a pair of jeans) These are a size 7 and I wear a size 8.(but don’t think I haven’t squeezed into them with jeans…no one can tell) hehe I hope you two see some cool shoes. :-)

Hello Lovelies…… Cameo, you are a true TP sisterhood leader my darling friend! Sarah and I came back to our hotel after a long and very productive day to sit with a margarita and read that you are taking over! Well, god bless you my love!! We are toasting you for you wondrous efforts!!
We talked several times of you amazing women today…. you would have really cracked up when we got a cab and ready….. the guy that picked us up remembers us (and we him ) from our last trip!! What are the chances!! No joke, he is a singing, lovely Chinese man that we took a photo with last trip… he remembers the photo too… So I was singing it’s a small world from Ripon to China…. bla, bla, bla….. (I was really ready for a cocktail at that point….!)
Oh… we really loved coming back and reading all the gorgeousness here!!
I skyped with all my boys tonight (your morning that is)…. lots of fabric designing going on today….. ohhhh… I am certain you will be overjoyed!!
We read about the boxes you are getting… and then you would just laugh if you heard us as we work…. “oh, the girls will love this….. oh, the girls will be with us on this lining…..) Just know you are with us, and we with you…. so glad you are enjoying this weeks videos…. know you are in good hands between our team and Cameo. We will check in and chat as often as we are able….. thanks for your patience as we travel….!
kisses…. to ALL!!!
TRACY + SARAH!!! (we have moved onto wine)…and a movie…our feet are numb, and the hot showers were blissful… we have a delicious gardenia candle burning….. just like home!!
xoxo see you tomorrow!!!!

Rebecca – I own the Mystic tunic (she’s a beauty with her sparkly gold touches) and it is a size large. The chest measures exactly 40″ under the arms. The size chart for this tunic states 39.5-41 inches for size large. If the medium (36.5″ to 38″) runs similar to the large in sizing, it is probably around a 37″ chest measurement. Also keep in mind there is no stretch or give in this fabric. Hopefully somebody with a medium will post actual measurements or perhaps you can call and request a measurement.

Good morning ladies!!
Tracy and Sarah…so glad you are enjoying yourselves! It sounds like such fun…what a kick about the cab driver! You two are making a name for yourselves all over the world! I love that you’re remembering “your girls” way back here!! Can’t wait to see what you bring back for us to “ooh and aahh” over!
Rebecca….You are my kind of girl! I think we need to go shopping together sometime! Wait until you get the Hollis Paisley!! I can’t wait to fit into it!!
Artist..any luck finding your gold bamboo? I’m racking my brain for you. You know you could always spray paint with gold?
Lisa…I’m feeling your pain! My mantel is quite large and I’m trying to figure out what to put over it…a painting, a few different pictures, paintings etc, our MASSIVE 60″ flatscreen (the only thing my husband has ever asked for…uugh!). I’m stuck. Sorry I’m no help…I’m in the same boat!
Sandi…if you’re checking in today…safe travels and speedy recovery for poor John. It is a cold but beautiful sunny day here! I’m sure you are ready for your own bed!
Have a good day girls!!

Cameo – you kill me. You stepped in with gusto! I do hope you’re sleeping this morning. You deserve it. This truly is turning into a sisterhood like no other. VERY cool!!!! Tracy & Sarah – thank you for checking in when you’re oh, so far away. Love your description(s) – we “see” you there!!! The cabbie story is a hoot! Nothing is coincidental….

Sharon – Many thanks for the details – it will definitely help me make a decision! Tracy and Sarah, so glad you are doing well and re-connecting with old friends (what are the chances of getting the same cab driver? You must have made QUITE an impression last time!), getting to talk to your boys, and putting your feet up too! I’m giddy about the fabric designing and everything else – feels like having my own personal clothing designers, because IT IS! Thank you, thank you for creating fabulousness on our behalf! We are a loyal band of authentic women dressed to the nines and building our wardrobes, piece after glorious piece, all with Tracy Porter labels!

Hello Artist, Cameo and everyone! I’m here, just a little late getting my blogs in! Cameo, you can fill in ANY day….And i love all the suggestions you made to Artist’s powder bath. I can see the bamboo, and leopard print towels, just perfect! I’m late in watching Tracy’s latest but wanted to comment….just more divine validation about scratched floors and charming imperfection! We can easily beat ourselvees up if things aren’t “just right” but
Tracy gives us permission to just “be” and to look to ourselves to make our homes our own -
no rules, no right or wrong. SO refreshing!
Emily, I went on your web site too……LOVE EVERYTHING, especially the belt buckles, and
the alter bottles. I live in Colorado Springs,
not too far away from you. Anyway, have a lovely, creative day everyone. Shawn, did you finish your London Wall? Would love to see pictures.
XOXXOXO

Hi Kelly,
Thank you for the compliment. That’s so nice of you. Your writing is full of life – so fun to meet someone from Colorado Springs!
I’m afraid you will have to use your imagination on my entrance as I haven’t learned to scan photos yet. (Embarassing to admit, but I will work on it this year.)
Enjoy your evening!
