New catalog, new video, new blog look... yippee!

Well, you may not have received it yet, but it is out there... the new TRACY PORTER catalog! I gave you some bits and pieces last time around, and thought I would share some more! We did a cool behind the scenes video of our shoot... check it out... you can see many of the photos in the making. The lovely chaos that happens... it's all quite magical... a bit of theater... and really quite a lot of fun. We wanted you to be there, so this is what we came up with!! We will continue to share our videos with you as we shoot... and we will be video pod casting soon... Little by little, you'll feel like you are designing everything with us! Also... we are adding a few new goods to the blog... Some of it a re-organize, if you will... some of it totally new... We'd love you to hang out with us and wander about... Please share us with your friends! And of course, let us know what you think!!! You know I am in here with you... I try to answer as soon as I can, sometimes I am traveling and it takes me longer. Our team will jump in now and again as you have seen... they too are a vocal bunch! I will always be honest, and direct... I hope you are inspired... and you must know... I LOVE all the chitter chatter we have going on... really, what a treat! You are so good to spend the time with us!

Okay... I know you will ask, and a few of you have already... so I will give you my favorite notes about the new catalog...

* The BEDDING... because we have always wanted to design our own that can be found nowhere else... TRACY PORTER BEDDING!!!! It's good to have a vision!!! I love each of the patterns for very different reasons... I am so curious, which one do you like? (I will give you my thoughts in the coming weeks...)

* Great FASHION items... I am all for collecting as you go... in my closet and my home (you have heard this from me a million times). It's just easier this way! And these new coats, shoes, shirts... all fit that bill! They are timeless and unique... easy to wear... easy to mix in. I just gave my sister (yes, the gorgeous brunette in our catalog) the PARIS STREET leopard shoes for her birthday... she loves them! Maybe she'll jump in here and blog with us... Robyn, are you there??

* Our FURNITURE... what an extraordinary journey it has been to design these pieces! To create rooms around them... to show them in environments to inspire you... Check out our room scenes, these are all shot in our house... I find it's the best way to give you who we really are. This furniture was designed to fit into many kinds of rooms... it is classic with many wonderful details and interesting layers... I love antiques, and find that these pieces work well in our home.

* New DINNERWARE... scrumptious patterns! Again, these cannot be found anywhere else but on tracyporter.com and in our catalog. In the next few weeks I will get into some of those patterns more, so you can learn how and where we are inspired...

* JEWELRY... it seems to me that you like very unique goodies (this is why we get along so very well)! So I have been on the prowl... literally finding the most amazing pieces for you... They are spectacular when layered, as you can see... I adore things that mix well... I love necklaces on top of necklaces... jewelry that feels like you won't find it everywhere... pieces that give you the sense like you've owned them forever... that have a soul.

* mouth-watering CHANDELIERS and sconces.... lamps... oh, just lots of golden, aged beauties. You know it's another obsession of mine... ever trying to squeeze another one into our home...

What do you love??? Let me know... I am SOOOO curious!!!

xoxo,
Tracy

Tracy, I want you to know that your catalog is one of my bedside treasures. It is lovely, very inspirational. Because you asked... the blue bedding set is my favorite. The colors are so soft and easy. I especially love the pillows. The gypsy pillow is the perfect blend of tradition and bohemian. I want to curl up in that bed and take a long nap!

What a way to begin the day! The song playing with your video is SO lovely. Who is that???? And, then to see actual footage of your house. Ohhhh....Tracy - your life is a GIFT to us! I'm still stalking my mail man for the catalog. I believe your family may be living a fairy-tale; and I, for one, believe in fairy-tales!

Tracy, I am in heaven! What a delicous new site. I find myself checking it daily. I want to talk with you and all the regulars-girlfriends already. Thanks so much for giving us so much. I'd love to see your home. The Christmas spread "Home Companion" did years ago was wonderful. You have already been so generous I feel selfish asking. I just love your style-chic but bohemian enough to be individual. I especially loved the videos. Girls if you haven't seen them do so NOW!

Tracy, thanks for the tips in the beauty department. I just ordered the primer. I have used a primer before and really liked it...not sure why I haven't been using it. I guess I ran out and never reordered. Anyway, I can't wait for this new primer to come in.

Also, Artist in NC...I ordered the Mediterranean Olive Oil Body Butter. (Yes! I'm an easy sell!) LOVE IT! Whoa baby...what a deal...it comes in a BIG container and truly does feel wonderful on your skin. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey...none of you are showing this site to our hubbies, right!?!?! Tee hee hee

Hi CC,
I am thrilled you liked the body butter. I love that shop. It's in beautiful Blowing Rock. My daughter worked there during college at ASU. She has a design and marketing degree. Are you listening Tracy? Be sure to check out their website. Did you watch Tracy's videos? Wonderful!!!!

Ok we are in trouble. No hubbies allowed. Artist in NC- I, too, ordered the Med. O.O. Haven't received it yet. AND....on my way to Sephora to get the primer! It does seem we are all kindred souls. "Tracy-junkies" and lotions & potions...such girly-girls!! And, this site may be my new stronghold: tee-hee. The videos are magical!!!!

Hi Tracy, About the videos-love them!!!!! I do want you to do yourself a favor and put that beautiful blue and green bedding on your bed! That wallpapered headboard would look great with it. I was surprised not to see it in the nightstand video. Do it and show us how great it looks.

Hi Virginia,
I think "Dandelion" needs to put me on their payroll! Hope you like the cream as much as CC and I. I do think we are Tracy junkies. I have lived with the new catalog by my bedside. Have you gotten yours? I have a wishlist that is finally becoming reality, ( both my children graduated from college this past May. Yes!!!!). Most of it is from Tracy. She appeals to the creative side of me. I love everything she does. I am wowed by Artisan Road. My kitchen is Tiffany box blue and looks great with it. Being an artist, I have even painted canvases to go with my dishes. Just finished a one man show that was Bohemian inspired and used the china pieces on the wine and cheese table. It was too beautiful!!!I think they helped sell the art!!!! I wish the jewelry was less expensive. Do you hear me Tracy?

Ok, how can we see each other's homes? :) Artist in NC...your kitchen and canvases sound fab! I have not gotten my catalog yet. Waiting on pins & needles. And, WHEN I get the Med. O.O. cream, I will give a report. Tracy, your night-stand "area" looks a lot like mine! Stacks of books & magazines. Nothing better. LOVE the idea of having an accordian file right there. I do "tear" a lot out and who knows where it ends up? Now, I'll know. :) This blog is just so creative, so FUN.

Hi There!
If you did not see my comments below.....I have been travelling and wow!! To come back to all this wonderful chatter.....you make me smile! You are so good to be visiting so often, what an amazing, honest...very cool group of people you are....!! Oh! i am so glad you like the video...and the others....! We will continue to do the behind the scenes videos, and also the other ones..! Yes, when we shot those we didn't have the bedding here...and i DO need to get it in my home...it has only been in our warehouse for a very short time....I will take video and pics soon on out bed. Yes, BTW, that is a wallpapered headboard...created out of a no $$ reality a few years back, and I just stuck! i really love it. It's vintage paper....just gorgeous. Works with everything, we just repainted ( i think I mentioned this) alot of our home, interiors....still doing some, and we will shoot new things with those as our backdrops. Nice rich colors...very scrumptious....
The beauty tips.....you guys are a riot! I am so glad that we "all" seem to have our little secrets to share...what works and so on.....I love hearing.....have you tried the lips...anyone? Valentines day IS coming......."CC"...yes, i did get a swimsuit...2 infact. bikinis...as I said I would....why the hell not. Sarah just came back from a trip and tells me that she is so glad that I bought a bikini....I am going to enjoy while I can! I want to be one of those ladies in Italy...in Cinquterre...topless at 80...big sun hat and bikini unders...my kids handing me another can of anchovies and filling my wine glass....( just what my boys will want to see).....yes, tea would be good. I ws telling Katie that we may need to do an "on the road" thing at some point....we do a tea and you come if you can...or maybe a come to the studio...gatherings....I realize we are not all in Wisconsin....but we could surely make it worth the while....hmmm!...........and Candy...I went to your website! Could you be any cuter! You are a beautiful woman...with a fabulous funky , cool thing going on! I will e-mail you at your site...way to go girl, and thank you for your very sweet comments...
and Dear anonymous...thankyou for your comments and honesty. Yes, we are in a time right now in our amazing country......John and I talk about it everyday, we are trying to see these times as glass half full. I know that may be overly ambitious to some....I have ( no matter what the situation I have put myself in, or been dealt) tried my damnedest to keep myself in that frame of mind) not with out a few tears mind you and a whole lot of frustration...over whatever it was......but I always found that i came out better for it. This is why..I try to offer more than just things to buy....i try to offer inspiration, good thoughts.....ideas and things that are not costly. I design beautiful wares and yes, I am in business...and yes, you are right many of our goods are not inexpensive....but there are treasures mixed in...and we do have a gorgeous line at Target. I appreciate immensly your thoughts.....I have been through many hills and valleys to come to this frame of mind....the glass really can be half~full.....or not.

BTW...Tracy, I've been meaning to tell you....I ordered the four free mags from "The Week" a few weeks ago. I want to thank you for mentioning this several blogs ago. I am a busy mom and I do not take the paper.I'm not a TV person so I get my news from the Internet. But, having the news delivered in a magazine format is wonderful. To the group: As a Mom of a 24 year old young man that was in Afghanistan (he's safely back)...the war (& hard times) are real. BUT! I live by Tracy's philosphy. I find the bright side in all. The glass IS always half full - it's really the only way. And, oh, so much healthier. I come to the site and blog first and foremost for ideas and to hear "like minds." I cannot afford too much from the site but wait for sales or save my pennies. :) Then, the beauty/lotion & potion/book recommendations are right up my alley. Tracy - you are so gracious to all of us. Bless you...and your unbelievable team! P.S. CC - on another note: got my O.O. Body Butter this evening. And then hit Sephora for the Smashbox stuff. I'll be a-primpin- and a-fluffin' tomorrow morning!

Hi Tracy, In the behind the scenes filming a bit of your kitchen shows. I noticed 3 chandeliers hanging. What fantasy! Which ones are they? I plan to do that in my kitchen using 2, one on each end of a long work area. Do you also have recessed lights?

February 05, 2008
Anonymous tracy porter said...

Sounds like we will all be meeting in Houston! Yes, diane we have 3 chandeliers over our island in our kitchen....in the center is the "PURE EMOTION", with the pheasants , gorgeous painting...and then flanking it are the "IVORY 3 LIGHT" chandeliers...they are very cool all in a row. We used to have 3 antique school lights, which i did love and they were very modern and cool, but then we put these up and it changed our room and allowed everything to come together more...it sort of anchored the room if you will. and.....we have a bunch of chandeliers on sale right now with free shipping! We don't do recessed lighting but we do have so many lights we've designed...it's a pretty broad range. If you need help picking just let me know. I am ever finding another spot to hang one in my home, so I am getting pretty good at picking them! ....oh, i so agree...if you need some family pictures...Jamie would be the one! how about all of those gorgeous shots.....p.s. Thanks Virginia for toasting the girls, they work really hard, and are so creative....we are very blessed to be working with our team every day.

I ditto Virginia's toast to your team! BRAVO to each of you. I am just giddy...I got my catalog TODAY! I haven't had the chance to pour over it yet but I hope to be able to do that once my day settles down this evening. Looks like beauty abounds in those pages, ladies!!!

Virginia, I am originally from Louisiana... is you son stationed at Ft. Polk? If so, here's to wishing him a HAPPY MARDI GRAS! (Believe me, there is such a thing as a good, clean Mardi Gras celebration. For my family it's all about being with family and friends....but, I digress....)

Jamie, your work is beautiful. You seem to capture the true spirit of the people you are photographing. I plan to look you up in a year as my daughter will need senior pictures! :)

I love to cook...you ladies have whet my appetite to check out this new cookbook.

Oh, Virginia...don't forget to let us know your thoughts on the lotion. BTW, I too love your outlook on life. I think we must search out the good....It's out there...I promise.

Okay, enough from me....I am off to run my night time "taxi" duties. :)

oh,right!... ..no we do not used anyting but the chandeliers. now having said that, they are on dimmers and when we are cooking at night we keep them up a bit, and then dim them down after. I think it works for us, but I can see that another layer of recessed could be good if you need a REALLY bright blast.I really think it depends on what you are used to.

Yesterday I received my Spring ’08 catalogue. While this is only the second Tracy catalogue I have ever received, I knew to separate it from the other catalogues and set is aside for a quiet moment to really explore it and enjoy the beauty inside. There is a level of intimacy in the catalogues that makes them more of a story than a shopping experience. Well, this morning, I woke up to an awful blizzard (I too live in a small town in Wisconsin where the winters are long and the sun rarely shines) and the catalogue is the only thing keeping me from going stir crazy or from washing my windows for a third time this winter.

And sorry to go on and on, but there is a ring in your catalogue that brought me to tears. It is the Heart Racing ring in jade with Austrian crystals. It took me a few times to see it, but the image on the center stone is like a ghost from the past. My father passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s three years ago (almost to the day). Every day of his life, he wore a gold ring with a black stone in the center that had the same warrior image imprinted in it. I have never seen anything else like it in my life, until this morning. Needless to say, I am ordering two, one for me and one for my sister. If we can’t each have his ring, then we can at minimum share this feminine beauty and hold his spirit with us when we wear it.

Thank you for the time you spend searching out these inspiring pieces. I just wish I could have one of everything!

I went on my qwest to Target for my new everyday TRACY dishes and my husband said I must write and tell you that he absolutely loves them, the quality is wonderful! - and he is very picky about dishes they can't be too delicate..(go figure?). We purchased the Blossom Collection, but I saw another pattern there that I have to have so I will be saving up so I can add to my collection! Gorgeous, love them.

Oh and my catalog came yesterday! I saw my husband pull it out of the mailbox and I said "YES!!!, now hand it over!" :)

Okay, so I just have to jump in here... (This is my second attempt - my first attempt I wasn't smarter than the comment window... go figure!!! Where was Amy, tech babe, when I needed her??) This is Vicki, BTW, Tracy's graphics guru (if I dare call myself that??). I am so humbled and delighted by all of the wonderful comments flying around!!! It truly means SO much that everyone is inspired by everything we do here... Honestly, it is a total blast to work in such a passionate and creative environment, learning so much, with lots of trial and error (as Tracy often points out, few of us have a background in anything remotely close to what we do every single day!). Thanks to Virginia and CC and everyone else for all the kudos, we love all of the amazing feedback - and keep pushing us too!!! We love the constructive criticism - it's how we grow! No egos and all of that...... :) p.s. I'll let Amy comment on the video music... We actually share an office space, so I was privy to some of the early snippets that she sampled... All I can say is, WOW!! Patience of a saint, that one! (I am totally giggling to myself as I type... it was quite the ordeal... I am not worthy!!!!) Amy... are you out there??? :)

I think I "NEED" those in my dining room!!! However, I do have one question....is the red a bright red? I have more of a cayenne or Tuscan red in my home. What do you think??? Also, do you send out samples; fabric swatches???

Hi Virginia! This is Katie (I work with Tracy). I use the primer daily and I typically use one full pump (or right now, one full q-tip swipe, as I am getting to the bottom). The main area where I notice a difference is in the applicaiton of my other makeup (concealer goes on like a dream!) and the overall texture of the skin - it softens it. I think I've been using this product for over a half a year and I must say, I can actually tell a difference in my skin!

And PS - I literally just got ambushed by our video camera, so you will be able to get the video version of this comment soon!!! I think we are posting it sometime this week or next week!!

CC,

I am sure Tracy will comment on these curtains, but I'll just say they are the most spot on version of red you will find - they would blend beautifully with your decor. Tracy and Sarah both absolutely lost their minds when they found them!!! Hope you are having great weather today--we are getting buried with snow!!

xoxo,
Katie

Katie , I hate to tell you that it is 70 degrees here. A wonderful day for golf or anything else outside. I am not a golfer but think in those terms as my husband lives on the course! I want to also tell you how amazing the catalog is. If there is an Oscar for catalogs, you have won hands down!!!! How personal, how luscious, what wonderful inventory. I do have a question for Tracy--- Which ring and earrings is your personal favorite to wear a lot? (not necessarily together). Also, did anyone get the cookbook?

Hi all!

Thanks Vicki and Tracy for the wonderful push to get blogging! I’m the tech gal here in our studio who has selfishly stayed behind the scenes reading your wonderful comments. Honestly, the biggest reward I receive after our “messy days” (an internal term for a day with major site rehauls) is to go home and read your inspiring comments. A few of your posts have almost brought me to tears!! (Of joy, that is!)

But in answer to your question about the music – well there actually is a bit of story behind the song. I knew before I started editing the video, I needed a “backbone” song – not too “elevator-y”, something that really “speaks”. If I can only tell you how many royalty free electric/techno tunes I endured on my search … I literally spent 3-4 weeks with headphones on waiting for a gem. Sometimes I would turn around to Vicki (our graphics guru who sits about 3 feet from me in the same office) to share some of the “special treasures” - polkas, whistles, synthesizer, and jazz all bundled up in cacophonous disasters!! I really don’t know how Vicki endured all the wonderful “inspiration”…

And then late one night, I stumbled across the song “Change of Heart” by Tom Dean (you can view the artist’s website at the following link (http://www.tomdeansongs.com/cd.htm). The song started and I KNEW it was perfect… however, as I kept listening I realized it was a break-up song!!! I was crushed!! But when I considered the alternatives (read: “acid jazz”) I knew I needed to make it work. While you’re watching the video listen carefully… when the still image appears of Tracy holding a wine bottle over the table. You will notice the music fades ever so slightly… that’s one of the hidden “loops” of the music! Enjoy!

Artist in NY--you are too kind!!!! And oh, how I wish we were in the 70's... alas, all the snow is a wonderful excuse for an extra cup of coffee in the morning... or a latte... I'm sure Tracy will jump in here on her favorite jewelry pieces, but I will tell you I own the heirloom ring and receive a lot of compliments on it. The photograph does not do it justice. I also love our wooden cocktial ring - such a great piece to have in the mix!

oh, the curtains are spectacular CC...they are RED....not dark or tuscan but brighter for sure, That shot is really in my house and I kept them there after the shoot ..( good perk).....I LOVE them, you can always try them and send them back if they don't work out. I have not found such beautiful curtains before, plus they are lined in a very nice ecru. AMY!!! and VICKI....you did it!!! Way to go girls!! Sarah and I were just downstairs filming and how they love us for surprise on camera attacks....you'll see soon...of course I am putting this in print so that AMY doesn't edit those spots out....we all must hold them to it!ok, Artist in NC...my FAVORITE jewels from the book.....these are all my children so it's very "sophies choice" but....I would have to say that STAR QUALITY ...is my favorite ring...it is so quenn elizabeth, and you know I am obsessed with that time in history....also I love the embellishing life necklace....i tend to really be enamoured (spelling,am i on it? so bad sorry?) with things that feel hand touched...it really is, and then as far as the earrings go....the filigree earrings kind of do it for me in a crazy way. I am also a bracelet sort of a girl.....if I could only pick one it would be the sultry splendor. ( i actaully just wore that combo to my recent meeting in NYC, but not the earrings)......still snowing....very pretty....

Ya know, it is can be a negative to work from home. I THINK I'm working; but I slip off to the dark side - that of TP & Blog. I'm starting a club: TP Anonymous. I need help: ha! First, it's killing me that I don't have "the book" aka the catalog. Can't wait. Fun to hear your favorites Tracy and Katie. Think I'll buy a ring. :)

Virginia, Sorry! I'm first in line at the TP 12 step meetings! I was thinking the other day...I think I need help...I'm addicted!!!!! But, hey! there are worse things a girl could be doing,right...this is all good, girly stuff!

Okay...I've got an idea....y'all need to come down south in the winter to design and settle in up north in the summer. Whatdaya think????? Or...maybe, winter time is when y'all can make road trips down here. Ha

I have a couple of Tracy's rings. I ALWAYS receive compliments on them when I wear them (which is a lot!). I have the wooden ring that Katie mentioned and a turquorise one that was offered last spring/summer. GEORGEOUS, da'lin!!! :)

Ladies...you know I will have to get those curtains!!! Let me save up a few more pennies then they are mine! (Tracy, hopefully you won't sell out of them before I can call them my own!!! If you get low please let me know. Seriously...please!)

Okay, here's the deal. I want to buy a ring. I can't make up my mind which one. Because I paint and am always putting my hands in goo, I was thinking the gold coin. (There is a bit of gypsy in me).No one has mentioned that one as a favorite. Could I get some feedback please.

Hi Artist in NY, you know... so funny you should ask! I own that ring as well... here's the deal - and I am being totally honest with you! I love it... the only bummer is I tend to wear my hair down a lot and sometimes I'll get the ring caught in my hair if I run my fingers thru it. So, when I wear the ring, I do put my hair up because it just doesn't feel great when you are pulling little strands of hair out! There's the real deal! That said, when I do wear it, I get compliments on it--it is actually my Aunt's favorite ring we have ever featured (we got her one for her birthday this year!) xoxox, Katie

I am ordering a ring too! Just think, when we have them on; we'll send good thoughts to one another: the TP Bloggers! Artist - I don't know which one either. I'm a green nut; so I'm looking at "Heart Racing"or "Lavish & Luscious." OH! Are there MORE rings in the catalog than on the web? If so, I'll have to wait for my book...

Tracy, ther is a ceramic peacock on one of the tables in the catalog. Is that a personal item? I love her! I also love the gold birds on one of you dinner plates from the site. Do tell about them please.

I have the goal coin ring and adore it. It is just the right size, fitting on any finger you want to wear it on. I always get lots of compliments and it is very elegant.

Good luck with your choice!

I love the video and the music was perfect. I checked out your products and they are absolutely gorgeous. I love the bedding, both of the sets! I love the chandelier in your catalog...oh my, it is beautiful!
I love all the tabletop items. I love everything! Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy anything, so I will just have to look at it and be inspired. That's ok by me.

Virginia, I love heart racing. It is my 2nd choice for a new ring. I still love the gold coin. Do you have that?

Artist!!! We literally did just sell out... it was from our fall catalog... I'm so sorry! Did you have another one that you were comtemplating?? If so, let me know and I'll let you know if any of us is living with it. I will say the ring that I am having a problem with righ now (meaning drooling over ever so slighty) is the fragments of beauty (it is outstanding). But as I am typing to you, I have the good old wooden cocktail ring on- I do wear her a lot and love the look and feel of the ring (I probably wear this one and the heirloom rign the most lately). I hope that helps a bit---so sorry we sold out!!!

Yes, regarding the curtains ,I used two eye screws and a hempy twine...that's it...very simple and frenchy. Mind you I am known for just getting stuff up on the wall without alot of measuring and pomp and circumstance! ( who is looking that closely...no time!) The peacocks are antiques...and the little gold birds were in our last catalog, i just checked to see if we have any, but we are sold out on those...sorry. I do love little birds ...setting about on my tables etc. so whimsical.......we have some gorgeous ceramic ones that are very pretty perched about the table they are called " birds of a feather" they are on page 26 of the catalog. or on the website you can just do a serach for those words. Hi ....Beach girl thanks so much for your kind words....really appreciate it...so glad you like all the videos and goodies! Artist from NC, the gold ring is sold out...i am sorry. It was from the last book ( fall holiday) as well, and we may have had a few left this week and now gone.........although check out the other beauties ! I wear a cocktail ring everyday...something just very fun about it....even if I am wearing a really simple outfit..it somehow makes me feel really pulled together. I will sometimes get to the studio and realize i did not put one on, so I will fish one out of our sample stash...yesterday was one of those days! Let us know if you find a gem!

Woe is me. STILL no catalog. Oh, well...back to rings. Since so many of you have the wooden ring and I've loved that since last fall; that might be a purchase. Artist in NC - SO sorry the gold coin ring is gone. Question - are there more jewels in the catalog than on the website?

Virginia, The website is complete. The catalog is luscious because you can see how Tracy uses everything but the inventory online seems complete to me.
