Simple eye makeup

So, Katie (our makeup-ista) and I got on the topic of eye makeup the other morning... It is so interesting to learn what techniques everyone uses, so I thought we would share a look that we both have been doing for years and have never grown tired of... It literally takes me 5 minutes, and now we have a video of it!!! Here's how to get the look:

I'll start out with a nude eye (I do apply an eye shadow primer - I know you already know this). Then I'll sweep a nice pink eye shadow with a luster finish on the lid. You can literally use any pink that works for you. Right now Katie is using MAC's shadow in Gleam, and sometimes I use their pink in Honesty. Then, in the outer corner of the eye, I'll use a great deep brown that I can blend just underneath the corner of my eye so that it looks like smudged liner. (I don't use any eyeliner underneath my eye typically... I save that for cocktails!)

For a finishing touch, I'll either apply a dark eye shadow for a liner (MAC's Embark is quite lovely - it is actually a very deep rich brown with plum undertones that works beautifully as an alternative to the typical black or brown eye liner) or I'll use their Fluidline in Blacktrack. This is an awesome liner!!! I love that it lasts all day long and is a breeze to apply. (It can't be too hard or intimidating, mind you... I just don't have the time and would much rather be with the boys in the morning!)

Apply two coats of mascara (I love and cannot live without Maybelline's Great Lash - hands down the best mascara I have ever used)... and you're done! Truly, I still get compliments on this look - and you can always tweak it a bit by changing up the shades, etc. But trust me... you will not go wrong!!!

p.s. Love the gems featured in the video??
(It's okay... We couldn't help ourselves either!!)

lavish & luscious free-spirit suddenly gorgeous

Katie & Tracy, I use something like this often. I love MAC colors and love, love, love the fluidline from them. I was a bit nervous to try it...I don't think I'm that great with liquid liner but this is wonderful stuff. Easy to use and it stays on forever!!!

This video would be much better if there wasn't all the background noise....it was difficult to hear what you and your friend were saying with the other people talking over you in the background.

Katie, Back to bronzers....I have a question....Do you like Bobbi Brown's brick bronzers or the powder bronzer? CC

Katie and all~ I forgot to ask....what is your favorite facial cleanser? Merci! CC

CC, I have been using Clinque for years and that is one program I would never change. It cleared my skin as a teenager and is now keeping wrinkles at bay.haha They have several ways to fit your skin type. I am sold for life!

Hi Ladies!!! I love all of the questions and chatter--keep them coming!!! I'm going to jump right in--so this one might be a tad long...

Artist... if pink doesn't work for you, I would recommend any neutral shadow--I know I used to use bone by Bobbi Brown, but truly, any shade that is close to your natural skin tone would be beautiful with this combination!

CC--expensive pink looks fabulous!! I do not currently own this, but just may have to expand my collection:)... twist my arm!!

Hair - messy bun... yes, we will have to do a video--it literally takes 2 seconds. And thank you so much--you made my day!!! In the meantime, try loosely pulling back your hair--rack it back into a pony tail with your fingers and then start to secure it as if you were going to put it in a pony tail. Then simply don't pull all of the hair thru--do this a few more times and pull out strands as you see fit.

Maggii--happy to have you with us!!! And no worries, my boyfriend played all of the videos at once--he thought this was great fun!

Back to bronzers... I personally own Bobbi Brown's bronzing powder... that said, their bronzing brick compacts are essentially what I have from Trish McEvoy (and love!!). It truly depends how you feel about the shimmer. I love the fact that with the different colors in the shimmer bronzer I can use them as eyeshadows and have 2 new shades... you could really get a lot of new eyeshadow shades with the shimmer brick from Bobbi Brown... but truly, it comes down to whether you want the shimmer!

Facial cleansers... we will have to do an entire blog topic on these... I do have a favorite that I have been using for 3/4 of a year and have absolutely noticed a change in my skin. The line is called M.D. Forte and can be purchased at skinwest.com. It is a little tricky to figure out exactly what you need (hence an entire blog topic)... it really depends on your skin and what you are accustom to using... I use the level 1 and I use the entire line. The line contains glycolic acid which removes all of the dead skin cells from your face--so if you are experiencing flaky skin, this will deifnitely take care of it! It also improves the skin's overall tone, minimizes lines, and helps to diminish pores. Sounds too good to be true, but I have noticed a huge change in my skin since I started using this product. It used to only be availble thru a dermatologist, but luckily it is now availble online!

xoxo, katie

Katie-hate to be a pest; but on an old blog I mentioned the beautiful color of Robyn's lipstick...the picture of her wearing the Zebra shirt. Do you know the color? I am crossing my fingers it's not a combo of 4 lipsticks. Tee-hee. And ta-ta...

Thank you for the reminder! I will ask Miss Robyn to jump in if she is out there... as to the exact color she wore that day. I do know a color that will get you the same look. It is called Lust and it is a MAC (I know--I have a slight problem with their line--I can't help myself!!!) lip gloss. This is a great color that will look good any almost any complexion. If you want more of a shimmer, I would recommend going with their Viva Glam V lip gloss - great look as well and in that same color family--let me know what you go with!!!

I'll write about the bun (with video) and the cleanser for our next blog!!! I LOVE that you are all throwing out ideas--please keep them comming--if there is ever a topic you are craving regarding fashion or beauty, please let me know--so happy to write about it!!!! xoxo, katie

Virginia, I can help you out with my lip color when I was wearing the zebra top. I am a chapstick nut ...I have them in 6 places in my house, vehicle, purse and store... So I use Burt's Bees lip shimmer shade nutmeg...then I wear Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick shade 205 Pearl Champagne on Ice...I keep it simple (not expensive) I buy them at Walgreens...hope that helps. To CC and Artist I do not have a website yet...maybe someday soon...The 2 stores are keeping me busy enough without a website right now. I carry alot of great lines evertyhing from lovely chandeliers to mirrors, beautiful lamps.....art then fabulous jewelry, clothing.... cute kids clothing and toys, a little bit of everything but in a beautiful way...Then in the new Tracy Porter Store will be items that won't be in Georgie's. Alot of TPs products, along with a nice mix of clothing, jewelry, furniture and home accessories. Once we get the store open maybe I will take some photos...Have a lovely day!!!

Girls, we have a photo shoot this week and Katie will be doing the makeup on some of our girls, we will video for you. Also the messy bun we will do, it's such an easy fun way to do hair...looks cool and casual even on bad hair days! We will find out what the lip was the Robyn was wearing. Have you ever tried the oil of olay combination cleanser cloths. I LOVE them ( again my mother). I have used every high priced line on the market you name it I have sampled it....these are by far my very favorite!! i buy them at Sams in bulk or Target. they give me a light scrub on one side and are nice and soft to use on my eyes on the other side, not drying at all. Another good topic for sure we will get on it!

Tracy - yes! The Anna Griffin files, etc. are beautimous and may requuire a treasure hunt. You can get them online. Her office stuff is mighty fine. And, CC & I will fill you in our lunch tomorrow! Ta-ta...

Hi mKatie, Remember I live out here in the ocean!!!!! There are no big stores that carry Mac or Bobbi Brown or many of the lines you mention. Please tell me of a good eyeshadow to be used as liner from Clinque, Lancome, Revlon, or drugstore. I can't wait for the bun video. You are too sweet to share so much!

Robyn, You are perfectly beautiful in that zebra shirt. I do hope you purchased it. You should never take it off. Thanks for the lipstick hints. I think they are better for me than the red lips were.
also, We would love to see your new TP store. Do a video from there please.

Hi Artist... ahhh, yes, we are in the middle of WI, truly, no stores to be had around us as well!!! I completely understand and share your pain... I have literally taken to ordering all of my makeup online and cross my fingers that it will work. Here's the great part--any color I am describing can be used with any line (and most lines will have the colors I am talking about)! I just happen to mention the lines I use, as I know the product well. I used to use clinique shadows a while ago, and they were great--all you have to do is find a darker shade in their line and use it as a liner! This applies to any makeup in drug stored as well!!! Let us know what you go with!!! xoxo, katie

I have a suggestion for a pink lipstick. It is a matte color by Laura Mercier called Ma Cherie. It is a great neutral pink and you can layer a little bit of lipgloss over it for sparkle. I love the Revlon lipgloss called Pink Afterglow. It has an SPF of 15 and I wear it alone or over lipstick.

Melissa, I love sephora! I've gottan lots of goodies from them. But, just curious....Do they carry MAC, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, etc? I don't recall seeing their stuff of the Sephora site. I'm in trouble if they do have all of this. I-Yi-Yi :)

Im...Thanks for the pink lip stick tips. I'm got to check those out ASAP.

What fun...Thanks for making me smile each day ladies!

Im~ Question: Are Laura Mercier colors a brown base pink? Just curious...you know how Bobbi Brown's are pink based.

February 21, 2008
Anonymous Virginia said...

CC and Im - Sephora (in the malls) carries Laura Mercier but not Bobbi Brown or MAC. I have a Laura Mercier "Fresh Brown" that is lovely. CC, you know I've got auburn hair. So...I do not wear pink lips - it would not do justice like you. This Fresh Brown has rose/copper undertones. Bobbi Brown's Nude is on my hand next to Fresh Brown---big difference. The BB definitely has pink. I'm totally confused now: tee-hee.

February 21, 2008
Anonymous melissa lewis said...

CC, they do carry Laura Mercier. Not so sure about Bobbi Brown. I know they don't have MAC, but that would just be too good to be true.

February 22, 2008
Anonymous LM said...

I would say that laura mercier ma cherie is not too brown or pink, it's in between. I use a the same MAC burgundy liner as TP to brighten it and a nude liner when I want a more toned down pink. It just looks like natural healthy lips. Another great pink is Chic by MAC.
