Behind the scenes... our process!

For me, design is all about inspiration... finding new ways to look at the things around me... colors, textures, fabrics, elements from nature... adding a new twist to keep it fresh and invigorating, comfy and familiar, all at once. We are constantly on the lookout for fabulous new gems, and wanted to give you just a teensy glimpse into what is to come in the weeks and months ahead! We've got our fingers into a little bit of everything, as you know... fashion, bedding, furniture, lighting, home décor... You name it, we're dreaming about it!

p.s. A side note about our walls... Mind you, they can get a little "Beautiful Mind" every now and again... but it just means exciting new things are headed your way!! We just needed more and more space to put up all of our new artwork, fabric swatches, tearsheets, etc... If it's out of sight, it's out of mind, and we simply cannot forget about anything new and juicy! Not to mention we were tired of bloodying our fingertips, cramming pushpins into wood and drywall...Just not efficient! So, we covered many of our walls in galvanized sheet metal. (You can get this from any heating & cooling supplier... just have them cut the steel to size and fold over the edges... then screw it into place. Voila!) I'm so in love with this solution that we've even covered several walls in our pantry, craft room, and kids playroom at home... We found a really great resource for super strong magnets - I literally cannot imagine how we functioned without them before!

When we see the evolution of a product it really helps justify the expense. This look inside was special, I'd love to see even more.

Wow. So, HOW do you have time to even blog with us? This puts your business into perspective; altho; you are always very real with us. Really Ms. Tracy - your reveals make everything that more special. BTW! The Fed Ex man just dropped off my package. I have 4 of the most luscious votives I've seen. Ladies, go shopping for "Two Second Beautiful." They make THE most enchanting gift. The colors are exquisite, the detail, over the top. I raise a glass to TP and her team!

Yes, I second Artist and Virginia. You are really something Tracy. As an entrepreneur just starting out, this video was so interesting to me. I really gained some insight here of all the ins and outs of the TP business. Thanks for letting us in on it here.

Also, I am crazy for the galvanized sheets on the walls. B/C our studio is donated, we are not allowed to put anything on the walls. Therefor, we have three little cork boards propped up, so we have to pick and choose what we wish to have posted. This idea is FABULOUS!

I'm gonna really try making this work in our studio.

Thanks again Tracy!

Oh...you are so sweet, you guys. thank you. I am so glad you like peeking into our studio....there is so much going on everyday and I know that I cannot show it all, but I promise to share what I can. I am always excited to share inspiration to others....
We really try hard to make everything as special as we can...not everything works out ...but much does......we really push the envelop with our design process, ( as you can see) all those details take time and lots of organization of details. Honestly our team is superb, they are very detail minded and extremely passionate .....it makes a huge difference when you are trying to move mountains.
Thanks for all your very kind words...

Okay, Tracy....I wish I were you even more. What fun to be able to come to this each day....even though I know it's must get super crazy at times, it seems like it would be very fulfilling to watch something "come to life." Thanks so much for opening your studio to all of us.

So, I'm sitting at my desk when hubby walks in from a long day. I quote: "I have something special for you....she's here!" And, there was the spring catalog. What a pretty picture, Tracy. But, I have to laugh...rather funny that husband knows how I treasure the TP catalogs. I've threatened everyone in the house...do NOT toss that catalog.

Oh, oh Artist!!! It's yours - the gold coin ring is back. It is a NEED, correct? Tracy - this blog has brought together the most incredible women! Filled with life, and a love for all in it. I am most thankful to you for your inspiration! We had a very different Easter and I owe it to you, your team, your books and tag lines! So...I had a very long, ugly table from Sam's that I covered with an old cool carpet. I brought out 2 topiaries and in the middle a silver tray filled with Easter Eggs; and used my Mom's beautiful sterling. We sat outdoors under our pergola, with the Texas sun pouring over us. We did brunch verus the trad'l ham, etc. The fam loved it! It's fun to shake stuff up a bit...
* Tracy - yours sound magical, as always. Sorry about the blizzard! But that Easter Bunny gets through anything, huh?

In December, I will have my 27th anniversary to a great guy who grows flowers for a living, and brought me a bouquet to my mom's yesterday. But, Melissa....you are right, it is hard, and don't let anyone tell ya any different. Marriage takes a lot of work, but in the end...it's worth it! And it gets scary because it's true that you start thinking the same thoughts. Priss (short for prissanna) is the nickname he gave me 30 years ago when we started dating.

Priss what a beautiful story. It's also nice to hear we all are about the same age (sorry Melissa, you still have some aging to do). That's why we can chat so freely, we speak the same language. BTW, I love the name Prissanna. Is it a family name? It sounds very South Carolina.

Aw, that's sweet Priss. Thanks for the info.

Virginia, your Easter setting sounds wonderful. Did you by chance, take pics of the lovely table scape? You know we are such visual girls here:)

Artist, do let us know if you buy that ring, it sounds to die for! Well, silly me, aren't all TP products?!

Melissa I have already scolded Virginia for not taking pictures. We are visual and NEED our photographs!!! That's what keeps us all so involved in the TP site. Like minds with all those delicous videos to inspire. BTW, I got rave reviews on my over the door bookshelf during the holidays. Everyone thought I was so clever.LOL

Hi artist....prissanna does sound real southern doesn't it? I never asked my hubby how he came up with that one...it just sort of fit. Though, I am not "prissy"...actually, I am more of a tomboy. I will have to ask him....30 years later! ha

Artist, glad to hear everyone loved the bookshelf. You did a superb job with it! Gotta love our Tracy ideas:)

Virginia, now that we have a Tracy Porter Anonymous Group, part of the regulations require that you keep a digital camera on your person at all times. This is a perfect example of why we have this rule. Though your written description was very well put together, our eyes did not get the pleasure of seeing!

Let this be an example to us all ladies;)

Priss...I must "ditto" the comments on your name...It's a GREAT name. One of those endearing southern things I think. I also "ditto" your comments on marrage....hard work but in the end well worth the effort!

On a side note...I see that you are still having a hard time posting with your name. That happened to me....go down a bit to the Name/URL button. Click on that then type in your name. I don't know why but it worked for me. Hope it helps!

Priss how wonderful that your hubby grows flowers!!! I would expect a bouquet daily! They are surely God's gift to nature.

March 26, 2008
Anonymous Melissa Lewis-Off The Wall said...

Ah yes, I agree with you artist.

There is something about flowers in your home that came from your very own garden (of which I only wish I had) versus the kind that was picked up from the store.

I think they are just "sweeter"!

March 26, 2008

Yep, y'all are right...the beauty of flowers is a gift straight from God! I especially think the not-just-perfect ones are very sweet. Right now we have rununculus and anemones, and the colors are so beautiful. Melissa, try planting zinnias...they are so easy to grow, and that's how we got started. zinnias are a very happy flower...like you!

rununculus ( sp?) are one of my favorites also!!...they were part of my wedding bouquet....I think they are so lovely.....we one the other hand are supposed to get some snow today ...oh, hooray!! Our son Sigerson said to me the other day that clearly mother nature is a little confused right now and that she needs to get together with father time. I am just really ready for some snivels of green and for our ducks to be able to have some open water on the pond. My hollyhocks have peeked up in the tiniest way all chartreuse in their brilliance.......miracles are beautiful!!

My husband took our 2 year old for a wagon ride yesterday in the 40 degree weather... she came back saying, "robin-bird on ground, geese, tree deers, motorcycle" so I KNOW spring is coming... it's just a matter of WHEN in Wisconsin!!

We drove through Wisconsin on Sunday to get home from Chicago. It was snowing for a few hours of the drive. I thought of Tracy and Jeanna in Wisconsin. It is beautiful with the rolling hills and trees. We saw sooo many deer in the fields. I can't wait for Spring hear in Minnesota. The birds are out so I think it is right around the corner.
