Chinoiserie foyer
By now you've probably noticed a trend... I am hugely inspired by all things Asian right now. (Mind you, this was going on long before our trip to Hong Kong... our travels only reinforced my obsession!). From charming little figurines to colorful prints in rich, dark hues... We recently re-did our foyer... new paint, new wallpaper, the whole nine yards. Before, it held more of a French-country appeal. Now, it's even more bold and dramatic than ever before! The dark taupe woodwork was covered in (you guessed it) high gloss black lacquer (perhaps one day I'll be tired of this? I can't imagine it right now!!!). The ochre & crimson toile wallpaper was replaced by this smashing flocked version in Chinese red, black, and gold. Sumptuous! Check out the website where you can order online... (By the way, don't throw the scraps away when you're done! I save them and use them for wrapping presents, making gift tags, or even covering a simple photo frame.) Since the wallpaper is pretty happening, I haven't really put too much up on the walls just yet. (You know... the whole work-in-progress thing.) Atop the foyer console, I've centered a gorgeous mirror, with a generous basket of found birds' nests below. A smart pair of chinoiserie lamps (that I stumbled upon while antiquing and got them for a STEAL!) completes the whole ensemble... for now!!

If your flocked paper is missing, you know where it is? I never loved flocked wallpaper UNTIL your home. Yowser! I'd never make it out of your foyer/stairwell area. Just camp out right there. Luscious stuff. Thank you SO much for baring all to us. We ARE so very nosy, oops, interested in all you do. P.S. You look TOO good after traveling around the world. Jet lag does not affect you, I see. Happy Friday to you, Katie, Sara and the gang!!!!!
I agree with your idea of simplicity, Tracy. The paper makes SUCH a statement. Those lamps would look mighty fine in my home, please. $40 bucks each???????? Come on! Pray tell, were they at an antique store? A "score" is an understatement. They are so happy!
You did a SMASHING job w/ your foyer Trace! So funny, I just wrote about Flocked Wallpaper on my blog and got a HUGE reaction about this paper. It's GORGEOUS! Love your choice as well:)
I would agree totally about not hanging anything else on the wall, the print is beautiful on it's on with the mirror!
The flocked wallpaper is OH MY GORGEOUS!!!!! It IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
Love, love, love the foyer!!!!
Tracy, you are AMAZING!!!!
My little 4'10" mama is Japanese, so I was raised with the asian influence. My mom is not much into decorating, but she is one heck of a great cook! I collect wooden kokeshi dolls...ebay is a great source. May need to think about a better way to display them...maybe an asian wall, borrowing from the London wall idea? Thanks Tracy....hugs to you for your enthusiasm!

Don’t Mock the Flock ! Great for bars, discos, and more..
What drapery did you use in the foyer with that paper? I spotted the cameo sconce that I remembered from an earlier magazine. So glad you are still using them. They were a favorite! BTW, it's all lovely!
Again,..speechless!! LOVE this! If I ever had the chance to step foot in your house,..honey I'd NEVER leave! ;) Too cool!!
Priss, your mom sounds so adorable!
Tracy, the jello rings were probably to keep the lamps from skidding across the table. Sort of a gripper.
Lets hope they were not for snacks...though they did make me laugh! It was 40 bucks for the 2 lamps! Sick really! A little antique mall is where I picked them up!
The drapes are antique textiles, they have a few rips at the bottom but I really don't care they are lovely and flawless to me none the less! They are very puddly on the floor ( i love puddling drapes!) and that makes up for the little tear in the fabric, you'd have to be on the floor to see anyway! I know you hear this from me, but never pass up a " goodie" if it's just a bit tattered....aren't we all a bit tattered...and better for it!! If you can get some flocked wallpaper in your home I know you will love it....and the scraps are just as exciting to use...presents, tags, lamp shades.....endless.. don't throw away an inch!! ( you know it really is the little things...like scraps of wallpaper...!)

Tracy, right now I am having a love affair with grass cloth. I seem to want it everywhere. I think it's wonderful in the back of bookshelfs and I love that the seams never match. All that texture is just too yummy.
I know I just left a really long comment on the stairwell post...but...I really think I need of wall of flocked wallpaper in my dining room!!
I do adore grass cloth as well, one of my favorite textures and makes any space very sophisticated! YES, YES!!!
