Majestic wall crown

As you know, I love instant gratification when it comes to decorating... Something as simple and inexpensive as a fresh coat of paint can transform your space from the demure to the exotic! Our master bedroom is a great example of this. The walls were a pale celadon green before... Now they're a rich, sumptuous chocolate brown... Warm & inviting! We added the ornate wall crown as a beautiful architectural element above our headboard to create height and old world charm... It blends into the wall color like it's been there for years, but still adds extra sparkle with its touches of metallic gold. Of course, I could not stop there and added layers of vintage pink curtains puddled beneath. (You could do anything here - from textural burlap, to a brightly patterned or striped fabric, to flowing silk, to sheer netting - for a completely different feel.) Nestled underneath the crown we've added an exquisite design in hand-painted gold, directly on the wall. Again, you could achieve the same effect free-handed, stenciled, or stamped. We chose to do ours in metallic gold to mimic the wall crown above, but you could do this in another contrasting color... whatever tickles your fancy!

p.s. I've talked about our headboard in past videos (someday I will be ready for a change!) but the vintage wallpaper is just too good to let go of for now!! BTW, wallpaper is such a great solution for covering just about anything... a tired old vanity, wooden chair seats, drawer fronts, picture frames, keepsake boxes... you name it, I've done it!

Talking about vintage wallpaper...I found some at an antique sale a few months ago. It was from a old hotel in a small town here in Minnesota set by the St Crouix River. It has a rasberry, melon background with Greek looking ladies on it in green, gold and blue. They were topless so I painted tops on them and lined the back of my ugly oak builtin shelves on either side of my fireplace. They have "character now". A side note I came back to the sale the next month and found matching velvet curtains from the same hotel. I love thinking of the history that the wallpaper and curtains have seen.

I did buy the drapes $14 each. I hung those in my extra bedroom that I use for a craft room. The walls are a light robins egg blue and the curtains are raspberry. I love the color contrast. I eventually want to hang a chandalier in the room.

cc you are welcome to visit any time but if i were you i would stick to your warmer climate...

I don't think i will paint these velvet drapes...they are beautiful as they are...for now. I am like tracy, i always change things up. I tell myself that i will leave things as are but eventually i move things around to different rooms and rearrange.

Tracy, I love that you threw in a dash of pink against your blue and green bedding. The brown walls really make it all work. How does John like it? I've always wanted to throw in a little pink in my bedroom but could never do it.

John is very cool with whatever...he is the original camellion man! He doesn't even question stuff like pink curtains...we've been together for so long that it's just a part of us.....and really since I am living with 4 little men and one big daddy man...a little pink is only fair...wouldn't you agree my loves?

Oh my gosh yes Tracy...You earned your pink!!!!!!

Absolutely!!!! Pink!!! I live with one big man and one little one . They have to put up with flowers once in a while.

Hehe, I guess we could say " you've earned your pinks" as opposed to your stripes. I don't think my husband would ever say no to me when it comes to whatever I dream up decorating wise. He said when we got our very first place that I could decorate it all black if it is what I wanted. He's a keeper. I guess with the pink, I was just too scared. But you really did it in such a balanced way. You have inspired me...big surprise:)

well, ( John would love that I am blogging this) but when we first met over 20 years ago, he had a Michael Jordan poster framed in glass as his "decor"....yikes! This was a main feature. Now mind you he had other things that were not quite so "guy" but ...soon...sorry my love....MJ was in his office. ( and still is).

I'm laughing out loud right now! The MJ poster, the glow star decor...both so classic late 80's and 90's. Don't you love it?

Well, I really like the glow in the dark stars...the planets are nice too...hee hee. BUT, not in my room anyway....ok, and on the walls too is a bit of overkill. I do like them though....:O)

Oh, my husband actually met MJ in the 90's. Because he speaks to kids and parents a lot, I have heard that story a MILLION times. I'm sure he had the poster along with his "air jordans."

Yes,.. the glow stars took awhile to donate... he actually had them up in a room when we moved in together... I give Derek a room to gather his "maness" in... he can decorte however he likes.

Aren't we lucky that our wonderful men encourage and support our full creative expression in our homes? (Hugely important to my state of mind!)
Just to change the subject slightly though still on the topic of wonderful husbands...

Tracy, I read somewhere that John loves to cook. Does he have any specialties? You must both be influenced by your travels when it come to the culinary arts. Are there any dishes that all of your boys enjoy?

Also, will your mom be sharing some recipes soon? (I read that somewhere in the archives!)

P.S. Love your lighting designs in your kitchen!

I love the lighting video with the chandeliers above the kitchen island. I own the Cerulean chandelier and have it hanging over my dining room table. I get so many compliments on it. One of my friends has a couple of Tracy Porter lights and they are so beautiful in person. You just can't tell from the pictures how detailed and beautiful they are.

Right, the corn pudding recipe!!! It wasn't on our website anymore, but I thought we'd share it with you again since you were asking... It is simply divine!! Let me know if you try it... xoxo, T.

CALL YOUR CARDIOLOGIST FIRST... CORN PUDDING

You may cringe a bit at the butter, but I am a Wisconsin girl... and we do butter here! I love this luscious corn pudding baked in an old cast iron pan... I use one that my grandmother passed on to me. If you have one, by all means, pull it out... It not only looks good in one, but it adds a little extra crispiness to the edges. As far as the size of the pan you bake it in, this depends on your taste. I like my pudding a bit thicker, so I use a cast iron pan that is about 8" in diameter. Use this as your guideline. This will take you all of 5 minutes to make... perfect with ribs, a big plate of summer tomatoes, and a nice arugula salad. I adore this recipe in summer and fall especially... It's comfort food to me. I've been known to eat the leftovers for breakfast with a bit of maple syrup... To each her own! (By the way, fresh chopped jalapenos or a can of chopped chili peppers add a nice zing if you can go there...)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

1 box Jiffy corn bread mix

1 15 oz. can of creamed corn

1 can regular corn (or 2 cups fresh off the cob)

1 cup sour cream

1 stick melted butter

Mix all ingredients together. Bake in a greased cast iron pan (or any baking dish) for 60 minutes or until lightly brown on top.

Artist,
It's warming up here. It has been in the 60's so that feels great compared to the snow we had last week. Thanks so much for asking. Guess where I get to go next week? I am going to the TP store also. My husband and I are taking the kids out of school and we are driving there and driving back in one day. Jeanna, I hope I get to meet you. I will have a four and a half hour drive. Aren't I crazy? I know you would all do it too, if you could.

Very pretty drive you will have, and 4.5 hours one way sounds about right. Stop through Princeton and visit Robyn's other store Georgies!! Also devine!! We'll have to set a time up on Friday.
