Our London Wall
I've blogged a little bit about this space before... but thought a little video might help inspire you even more!! Okay, so I've rambled on and on about how charming London hotels are to me (they are one of my obsessions, after all). They load up their walls with tons of antiques and amazing art... they're simply dripping with lusciousness. I just had to recreate a version of this in our own home! (p.s. Since this is our den, we've even tucked our TV into the mix, along with some of our children's artwork, to make the whole thing feel a little less serious.) As you can see, nothing is overly designed here... I just begin with a handful of cherished objects, and sort of start building out from there! No rules... that's the beauty of it. Nothing is perfectly spaced, or hung absolutely straight. Some of the pieces are framed... some gilded, some carved wood, some resin... Others are simple, hand-painted canvases with their edges fraying a little. I like the sketchbook feeling (do you know what I mean by this?)... the imperfection of it all. I've tucked in a few petite mirrors, ornate candle sconces... and yes, more books (held open with an inexpensive metal plate hanger). If I get tired of something, I can easily move it to another wall and insert another gem... I just keep adding to the collection, constantly refining it and making it my own... Cheerio!!

Oh, my. I am frothing at the mouth at ALL these videos. Tracy, you've outdone yourself (haven't I said this before tho'???). May I move into your home??? I am on the prowl RIGHT now for MY "London" wall. It's too perfect. I have sooooo many treasures (the ever-collector). How perfect to make them part of a wall. Thank you for making my Friday! Tally ho.
Gus, Gus, Gus. Need I say more? He's melt-in-your-mouth....
INSTANT INSPIRATION!!!! That's really I have to say here, but of course, it's not all I'm going to say. As I am watching this video, I am sitting across from the wall our TV is on & SNAP, BAM, BOOM... this is what I want to do to my TV wall. It's currently in an armoire that is too small for this wall, so I will remove the armoire and do the London Display!
Thanks Tracy!
I have a feeling my husband won't be as excited about this change as I am, but he'll come around with the end result;)
Oh, and the book display on the plate hanger...BRILLIANT!!!! Doing that ASAP!
Gus is the cutest, love the dishelved hair. I love how you incorporate your REAL life into this blog.
Did I say LOVE?
Tracy, okay.....Add me to the list that wants a London Wall!!! That wall is truly DELISH!!!!! LOVE the way you've wrapped your TV into the mix. I think I'm going to have to start collecting treasures to hang on the wall. I adore the fact that you've included your children's artwork in the mix. That is something I would do also! Love the realness of that!!! You're right...It's all about family and calling it your own. One last thing....I was so happy to hear you say that you will probably be adding to this wall until your 95....I think it would always be an updated and wonderful addition -- not something trendy that's here today and gone tomorrow.
Gus is such a cutie patootie!!! Give him a squeeze for me!!! :)
Hugs~
Something that would be lovely on anyone's London wall is a piece of art by our very own "Artist." And, you can get a glimpse on Melissa's blog who was kind and interviewed and featured Artist's paintings. They are wonderful!!!! I've been working on MY wall. It shall be in our master bedroom where I go daily in the early morn. I'm blessed to have an "Artist" painting in my home.
Thank you Virginia for the kind words and many thanks to dear Melissa for featuring my artwork. I hope those of you who have asked to see a sample of my paintings will visit her site and comment.
Tracy this is the best set of videos you have ever shown us.Thank you for sharing.
Tracy, I'm just curious.....I know you have mentioned to all of us before that you have a love for all things Asian. However, I'm curious....are you changing out most of the decor in your home from the French/English influences that you've shared with us to all things Asian??? Or will you leave a mix of influences in your home???
Tracy, I laughed when you said you would be adding to that wall into your 90's!!! Who are you kidding? You do not keep anything that long. However, the wall is great and you should keep it!!!!!!!!!
Tracy, I must say, I love your "London Wall" the best of all. I am going to take a picture of my "boring" wall now and then as it progress until it reaches the "London Wall" look. I'll share the final look with you so you can see how wonderfully talented you are and how it blesses others:)
Oh , you are right ! I am every evolving, you have me at that! I do still love french, english etc. and will always have that in my life and home.....But Asain has always made me wild.I adore Moroccan influences as well...Not sure where I will stop. I will ever keep my eyes open, ready for the next thing that makes me squirrelly.
I love hearing about your "walls"..continue to tell.
Tracy~ my Grandma (whom I've inherited my collecting bug from) has a "London wall"... it's filled with amazing antique pictures,.. artwork,.. new pictures of grandkids, and pictures of her family when she was a girl... sooo much fun to look at,.. and one never gets tired of it! ;)
Tracy, will there be new tabletop out for summer? How about bedding?
My wall is a native wall. A deer hide along with dream catchers, antlers, feathers and pictures from old books and cards. I never intended on this theme, it just grew. Still growing actually.
Your native wall sounds very interesting. Are you American Indian?
No native blood that I know of!!!! Although I have been mistaken for it. I admire the artwork however.
