Our trip to the Orient...

Ahhh...Travel. Such a wondrous opportunity to experience everything in a new light. We are so insanely inspired by other cultures... we love everything about change... and Hong Kong showed us a most delicious week recently. Thought we'd share a few snippets from our photo album...

John, Sarah and I loved every morsel... from the hot, humid weather... to the exotic food (shark lips - yes, really)... to finding old spectacular treasures in little old city markets. The trip left us breathless! We visited temples, tropical city gardens, and toured Victoria Harbor on a vintage boat that left us smitten. If ever you have the opportunity... you will surely surrender to their rich culture, and your spirit will be better for it!!

A few of our favorites from the trip...

1. Dim Sum for breakfast
2. Snappy little red Euro-Taxis
3. Thick, fragrant, heady air (layered with the sweet notes of incense)
4. Margaritas & lounge singers
5. Hollywood Road's dusty little treasures
6. Emailing our children the day's adventures - from the other side of the world…
7. Warm peanuts served in silvered bowls
8. Flirty green tiled roofs
9. Waking at 3:45am for the day (with a time difference of 13 hours... the body has her own rules... I felt so accomplished by 6am... breakfast, news, emails!!!)
10. Sugar packets in Chinese
11. Vintage harbor junks
12. The pure exoticness of a far away land
13. Evergreens that appeared to be made of rubbery lace
14. Hong Kong Park
15. The Ting Kau Bridge
16. High Tea at the Peninsula... cucumber sandwiches, fruit filled pastries and sweet rose tea... every girl's afternoon fantasy!

xoxo,
Tracy

I want Sarah's job!!!!!!!!!!!! If I lived up there we'd have to fight for it. How lucky to be able to travel like that and be at work.

Kate,
the pencils are great for kids but I was thinking of you. You mentioned putting your art on hold. DON'T!!!! Use those and then apply water. you won't have a mess or a lot of $$$$ in supplies and will love the results.

Dianne,
Thanks for the encouragement--I needed that!! I haven't picked up a paintbrush in 2 years. Between moving to a new home 300 miles away, having my third baby and so forth, it just hasn't happened. In January I went out and bought a large canvas and even sketched on it, but I haven't touched it since. (It was my New Years resolution to get back into painting.) I've just gotta break out the paints and get to it, I know. It feels like I never have time for it, but when I MAKE the time for it how much I enjoy it and feel like my soul is alive again. I like your suggestion about the watercolor pencils though. It's a way that I can be creative and paint, and my kids can too at the same time, with very little mess. You can't beat that! I have to admit, just since I started writing this comment my 1 year old has gotten into the toilet and the dirt in a potted plant. Gotta go!

Oh Kate, what special days that will pass oh so quickly. I know you're tired. My 2 graduated from college last May. That gives me plenty of time for art. You're doing the most important thing now...being a good mom.
When you feel like creating crawl in bed with the pencils and a watercolor pad and just sketch. Leave it by your bedside table. You can always add the water later. You'll love the look, I promise.

oh man, I can see I've missed out on a lot of chit chat. Hong Kong looks like so much fun. Sounds like the TP gang had a great trip. What a blessing that you guys are not only able to do what you love, but God even allows you to travel the world while doing it.

Thanks so much for these great pictures!
