Make & Create... more is more!

One of our dear artists and friends gave me the most delightful gift recently, so I just had to share... Isn't this plate spectacular?? She started with an antique porcelain gem... and then layered on all the goodies in the most fanciful paisley design... metallic silver seed beads, tiny felt flowers, silk millinery petals, velvet leaves, sparkling rhinestones, and more... (Hint - if you use a dab of hot glue to assemble everything, the embellishments will come off quite easily down the road... if you'd even want them to?? Personally, I'm not sure if I could ever go back...) An assorted trio of these lovelies would be stunning mixed into a London Wall... They're also the perfect accent for my many altars and vignettes... some lying flat, some perched up against the back of a bookshelf... Such a sweet gift for a friend, grandmother, auntie... or anyone else that you hold near and dear. I hope you're as inspired by this one as I am!! I know I'm ready to go antiquing and start ferreting through all those juicy baubles out there... How 'bout you?? xoxo

Thank you sooooo much for sharing this idea Tracy! I collect antique plates, and they get kinda,...boring after awhile ;) (i can't think of a better word than boring right now, but ya know what I mean) I'm so doing this!!! Merci!

Tracy...isn't that gorgeous? I've done something similar to a picture frame. I had a box full of Mom-stuff (things that reminded me of her) and hot glued them on helter-skelter onto a frame. It means so much to me when I glimpse a pin she wore in the '60s, a broken chip from a porcelain flower, etc. The plate is dressier and more formal which I absolutely adore!

Melissa Lewis, I've never known an artist that didn't own a hot glue gun! Run to Wal Mart, quick. This is one item you really need. After a day you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Wow! This is my great grandmother's plate that I've got perched in my dining room cabinet! I don't have the nerve to touch it (hot glue guns and I don't get along, but that's another story...) but what a beautiful piece your friend has created. The plate itself has come a long way; who knows its story? My GG came here from Aberdeen, Scotland in 1950 with hers.
Thanks for sharing, Tracy! Your site has become one of my "guilty pleasures"--so much fun!

Lauren
ps. if your kids love IF they will go crazy for Table Topics. We've got the family edition and it works for everyone--my 8 year old was reading the question to her 18 year old sister's boyfriend over dinner last night! We all have fun with this set of cards.

Lauren, don't touch your GG's plate!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go to the flea market and buy one to dress up! it shouldn't be valuable, just charming!

Speaking of charming! If only everyone had a friend like I have. On a previous post, I complained that I did not live in a marshland; and that Texas nature just doesn't quite do it for me as far as composing a "nature altar." Well! To my utter delight, Artist from North Carolina (fellow bloggette), sent me nature in a box. 2 of the biggest starfish I have ever seen, a bird's nest, the perfect sand dollar and a truckload of seashells. Plus the coolest, quirky pine cones! These are extra special since they are fresh off the beach of NC and hand-picked by Artist. My vignette is up now and I absolutely love it. I "found" a book I've had for 28 years on the coral reefs of Arabia that is a little bit yellowed with much character. I'm feeling quite a la Tracy! And, thank you, Artist!!!! Ta-ta...

You know Artist in NC,..my hubby and I were thinking about taking a trip out to North Carolina to see his sister (she lives in Havelock) is that close to you?? We're either flying or driving,...not sure on which one yet...

Virginia, I'm beyond jealous! Your nature altar sounds lovely! Artist, do you paint still-life's of these beach treasures? You should!!! I've only visited Asheville, NC and loved it. Where do you live in NC, Artist? I live in the desert, surrounded by red rock cliffs. (About 1.5 hrs outside of Las Vegas). Sometimes I really miss the green (I grew up in the midwest) But, the colors here in the desert are unlike anywhere else. (Sunrises and Sunsets). You have to see it and experience it!

Oh my gosh Jeanna...I am so excited! I live 10 minutes from Havelock!!!!!!!! We must arrange a lunch together if you visit your sister-in-law. How wonderful that would be!

Kate, I live almost in the ocean!!!! We are on the coast of N.C. I do paint everything!!! Our area is very green and lush but also very humid...like living in a greenhouse. LOL Your area sounds beautiful. I know desert light is the best!

ok girls if you haven't shopped the 50% ceramic sale you should. My gift closet is filling up for holiday time. Those little $9 vases are so cool to take when you visit a sick/or well pal and want to take a sussie. run outside cut a rose and voila... OH i can't find the IF game...not at amazon. anybody got ideas please let me know. Also if any ofyou are computer geeks I wish you would design a blog page where we can have one stream of blogs rather than having to hunt and try to remember where you last commented. maybe set it up by month. that would a capital idea and maybe TP would agree. that would help us blogging impaired gurls...

I'm so surprised they haven't sold out. Great deal!!!!!! I'm not the tech savy one to set up your new blog string. Texas, what a great idea! We need a Tracy Porter Forum. I think thats what we need anyway:)

It's in the 100's here in Memphis too. I just planted two trees... I hope they make it. I'm watering every other day!

Water every day Melissa!!!! This heat is a killer. On top of the heat we are now dealing with a smokey haze. There are fires in the western part of the state and the wind has shifted and now we are smokey. Unbelievable!

Texas, I agree with you... It is hard to follow where I've commented or read something that I'd like to go back and re-read. Here's the deal with this....our sweet Tracy puts several posts up and each post has a comment section. In order for this to be eliminated Tracy would have to share one post at a time with all of us. That would eliminate us having to scroll and search. Does that make sense? I hope I don't sound rude (I don't mean to...it's just that's the "problem.")

Happy day, girls!

I don't like that plan. I love getting all the Tracy post she will give us. It's pure inspiration and I don't want to let go of any of it. Girls, please try and keep up. haha

I agree with Artist, I love having a mailbox full of new Tracy's reads every other week. Now... I would mind getting a box feel EVERY week;)

Artist, I hate to hear that about the fires! So scary! I can't imagine the air constantly being smoky.

I'm with artist....I love all the different "sections"...you get used to it...now, I know to check all areas. I am looking forward to hearing from John since it is close to Father's Day. Maybe tomorrow?
Yep, the heat has been a killer artist, but we are going into a "cold spell" they say. We can only plant flowers that love the heat when it is this hot...like zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, celosias, amaranthus, etc. They don't mind the heat at all, thankfully. The hydrangeas are blooming now too...I love those. Wish I could send you all a bouquet of zinnias....
Hugs to all, Priss

you are becoming my extended family...I am having a gargantuan hamburger right now for lunch and reading these and yelling across the wall to Sarah....the box of "nature stuff" that Artist sent to Virginian melts my heart!!! Oh..i just love you girls! Leeza, the emerald green paint color is from a shirt I own, I had it custom mixed, try to find a spectacular rich, very blue emerald and take it to your hardware store and you too can have those yummy walls!!! You may as well pick up some high gloss black too because they are.....oh , and TXFF... the " Richard Gere" guy is my dad!! You may just make his night!!

Artist...that is the downside of hydrangeas...they need shade and love water...we have had toasted flowers also, especially those still blooming in our hoop house. some folks use shade cloth over hydrangeas to help them out, but hopefully yours are shaded at least some of the day. our heat is tough on all flowers!! Wish some of the rains would head our way too. Happy week-end all!!
